Vito Cancilla
Seventh grader dominates
It's not normal that a 13-year-old 7th grader is allowed to race a Pro Late Model on the half mile at Kevin Harvick's Kern Raceway. Matter of fact, it had never happened until last weekend when Vito Cancilla was allowed to compete in the October Classic 60 Spears Pro Late Model division. When Kevin Harvick and Tim Huddleson opened the door, this kid went through it full speed. Just being there and competing was not enough. Vito Cancilla of Martinez CA recognized he had been given an opportunity and boy did he take advantage. Vito topped the speed charts though both days of practice and then qualified with fast time. When he pulled the pill from the Spears bag, he pulled a four which determined the starting invert. When the green flag dropped young Vito wasted no time and by lap eight the youngster had taken the lead and was running away. This was his first series win, and it came in front of multi-time "October Classic" winner Sean Woodside. Seth Wise, Tanner Huddleston, and Scott Youngren rounded out the top five. Vito thanked and credited his team at Nascimento Motorsports, his mom and dad, Impact Transportation, Advanced IPM, and Sierra Speed.
