Final Round: Talbot Leads Peet into Madsen Overhead Doors Crate 602 North Region Finale

VERNON, NY – The final round.

On Friday night at Utica-Rome Speedway during the 15th annual Short Track SuperNationals, the 2024 Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region Crate 602 Sportsman championship will be decided for the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco.

South New Berlin, N.Y.’s Payton Talbot leads the standings into the track where he recently clinched the 2024 Taylor’s Trailers Crate 602 Sportsman championship.

Talbot holds an advantage of 68 points over Tyler Peet of Lake Ariel, Pa. (435 points to 367).

In four North Region events contested this season, Talbot and the Belmont’s Garage team have two victories coming at N.Y.’s Fonda Speedway on July 3 and Sept. 14.

Blaine Klinger of Walton, N.Y., Dylan Madsen of Spencertown, N.Y., and David Hackett of Lysander, N.Y., complete the top five entering the “Working Man’s Race” at Utica-Rome this weekend.

The other two drivers with victories on the tour this year are Michael Ballestero of Saratoga Springs, N.Y. (N.Y.’s Brookfield Speedway) and Brian Calabrese of Johnstown, N.Y. (Utica-Rome on July 18).

Championship points will be awarded for this weekend’s event with the following breakdown: 1. 150; 2. 145; 3. 140; 4. 135; 5. 130; 6. 125; 7. 120; 8. 116; 9. 112; 10. 108; 11. 104; 12. 100; 13. 96; 14. 92; 15. 88; 16. 84; 17. 80; 18. 77; 19. 74; 20. 71; 21. 68; 22. 65; 23. 62; 24. 60 (through last) Drivers failing to qualify will receive 35 points.

The Madsen Overhead Doors Inc Crate 602 Sportsman North Region championship will be decided on Friday night (Sept. 27) of Short Track SuperNationals weekend with a 25-lap, $2,000-to-win event.
