STSS ‘Dirty Jersey’ Race Day: New Egypt Storylines, Stars & Sleepers

Written by Chris Moore

NEW EGYPT, NJ – Dirty Jersey Race Day!

The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco roars back to life tonight at New Egypt Speedway.

The D-Shaped oval hosts the 10th annual ‘Dirty Jersey’ for a 50-lap, $6,000 headliner in the Garden State.

The STSS celebrates a decade of the ‘Dirty Jersey’ event, which has spanned across multiple sanctions and racetracks over the last 11 years.

THE STORYLINES

Just two days after Round No. 7, tonight’s ‘Dirty Jersey 10’ serves as Round No. 8 of the Ollie’s Overall Championship chase.

St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada’s Mat Williamson leads the Overall Championship by 48 markers over Savannah, N.Y.’s Matt Sheppard.

Tonight’s event also serves as Round No. 5 of the NJ Quality Drywall South Region, which is also led by Mat Williamson.

THE STARS

Matt Sheppard won the ‘Dirty Jersey’ on three separate occasions in his career, coming in 2014, ’22, and ’23. ‘Super Matt’ has remained consistent throughout 2024 but is chomping at the bit to return to Bicknell Racing Products Victory Lane.

Walden, N.Y.’s Anthony Perrego has found his stride with Vinnie Salerno and the 4* racing team. Perrego sits second in the South Region standings and was the ’21 ‘Dirty Jersey’ winner.

Ringoes, N.J.’s Ryan Godown boasts three wins to his name at New Egypt this season and is the current point leader. Despite all of his success at New Egypt Speedway in his career, Godown is still in search of his first career ‘Dirty Jersey’ triumph.

THE SLEEPERS

The Grosso brothers, Brandon and Justin have both picked up wins this season at New Egypt Speedway but have been shut out in STSS competition. The duo seeks will certainly be a threat to defend home turf in the 10th ‘Dirty Jersey.’

Tuesday night will be an emotional night for Boyertown, Pa.’s Mike Gular. The former New Egypt Speedway champion will look to honor his late car owner Terry Fasnacht with a victory in the ‘Dirty Jersey.’

A past New Egypt champion, Danny Bouc of Pipersville, Pa., owns a Short Track Super Series win in Delaware. He would love to add New Egypt to that resume tonight in the ‘Dirty Jersey’ special.

ALSO IN ACTION

The Belmont’s Garage South Region resumes for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman with a 25-lap, $1,500-to-win affair.

Upper Makefield, Pa.’s Joe Toth leads Ethan Bill, Michael White, Logan Watt, and Adam White heading into the ‘Dirty Jersey.’

The Four Cylinders, under New Egypt Speedway rules and procedures, will complete the program.

ON THE HORIZON

The STSS preps for a jam-packed July which features six races across the 31-day month. First up is the sixth annual ‘Firecracker 50’ at N.Y.’s Fonda Speedway for the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds.

Round No. 4 of the River Valley Builders North Region and Round No. 9 of the Ollie’s Overall Championship sees the STSS Modifieds go for 50-laps and a $10,000 payday.

The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman are also on the docket in Round No. 3 of the Madsen Overhead Doors North Region.
