Revival Race: Brookfield Speedway Ready to Host STSS Crate 602 Sportsman Sunday
BROOKFIELD, NY Another chapter in the revival.
Historic Brookfield Speedway a quarter-mile oval shuttered in the mid-1990s and rescued by members of the Madison County Fair Board and race-loving volunteers is thrust into the limelight this Sunday, May 28.
The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco Crate 602 Sportsman circuit makes its first-ever visit to the revered-by-locals venue this Sunday in Round No. 2 of the Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region.
The 25-lap event offers $1,500 to the winner plus special awards and bonuses.
During the off-season, the Brookfield surface was completely reworked with new clay. Additional track lights and caution lights have been added in addition to AMB transponder scoring and an officials™ tower inside the speedway™s historic covered grandstands.
Race cars hit the fresh clay for the first time during a Wednesday Open Practice, drawing positive reviews from competitors in the Crate 602 Sportsman, Pro Stock, Four Cylinder and Slingshot divisions.
Now, all attention turns to Sunday.
Derrick McGrew Jr., after a win earlier this month at N.Y.™s Accord Speedway, leads the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman North Region contingent into Brookfield.
A complete STSS Crate 602 Sportsman pay structure will be in place in addition to special awards and bonuses, including a $200 Hard Charger Award courtesy of Picture Perfect Pools & Spas.
The Pro Stocks/Street Stocks race 20 laps for a $600 winner™s share and $75 to take the green flag. Scenic View Campground has added a $200 Hard Charger Award for the Pro Stock/Street Stock contingent.
The Limited Sportsman make their debut at Brookfield. Thanks to Next Generation GraphiX, the 20-lap winner will receive a $300 top prize, with $200 going to second and $100 to third.
Slingshots both Allstars and Juniors are in action. The Allstar winner receives $300 and the Junior victor takes home $100. All starters will be paid.
Jerry Snyder & Crew Builders have added $1,000 in cash to be distributed to Slingshot racers. The top-five finishers in each division will take home $100 bonuses courtesy of the Brookfield-based company.
New Day Motors will reward all Slingshot heat winners with $100.
Four Cylinders complete the program with Single and Dual Cam winners each receiving $100.
A fireworks display is planned to light up the sky at dark!
Grandstand admission is $15. Kids 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $40 (ages 13 and up), $10 for Kids (ages 6-12) and $2 for Children ages 5 and under.
