Written by Chris Moore
ACCORD, NY The Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco invades Accord Speedway on Tuesday, May 10 for Round No. 2 of the River Valley Builders North Region.
The return to the 'Big A' is the ninth edition of the Battle of the Bullring™ at the Palmer family™s tight quarter-mile oval.
For the 2022 edition, the STSS Modifieds race 50 laps for a $6,000 top prize with 10th-place paying $1,000 and $500 to take the green. A total pay structure of more than $27,000 is up for grabs at the Ulster County Bullring.
Middletown, N.Y.™s Anthony Perrego is the only multi-time victor of the Battle of the Bullring,™ having won on three separate occasions including the most recent event in 2021. Perrego™s triumph last year was an emotional one, paying $5,440 in honor of his late father Tom Perrego. Perrego also claimed the 2014 and 2017 editions of the event.
Sheffield, Mass., driver Andy Bachetti claimed a dramatic Battle of the Bullring™ victory in 2019 over Boyertown, Pa.™s Mike Gular, who had driven from the consolation in a borrowed ride to claim the runner-up spot.
Newburgh, N.Y.™s Jerry Higbie registered his one and only STSS triumph in the 2018 edition of the Battle of the Bullring.™ Higbie is one of the few drivers to top Perrego at Accord.
Stewart Friesen claimed his sole Battle of the Bullring™ victory in the 2016 edition. The Sprakers, N.Y., native bested Jimmy Horton, and Danny Johnson in a thrilling three-car duel.
Jackie Brown Jr., like Higbie, claimed his only STSS triumph at Accord Speedway in the 2015 Battle of the Bullring.™ Brown was the runner-up in 2013, avenging that defeat to pick up the third edition of the event.
Wurtsboro, N.Y.™s Danny Creeden won the 2013 Battle of the Bullring™ in the first-ever BD Motorsports Media LLC program run prior to the formation of the Short Track Super Series.
The Precision Hydraulic & Oil North Region kicks off for the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman as well. The STSS Crate 602 Sportsman race for 25-laps in a $1,500-to-win and $100-to-start event.
The FWD Four Cylinders, under Accord Speedway rules, will complete the program paying $300 to the winner.
