GAFFNEY, SC Sorry, Mama.

The famed Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., will host both the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman in the Palmetto State, just 40 minutes south of the Charlotte, N.C., hub of racing.

The first Elite™ STSS program will offer $25,000 to the winner for 50 laps on the Cherokee red clay. The purse, which falls just shy of $80,000, pays $1,000 for 16th-place and $500 to take the green flag.

The Elite™ STSS program includes a mini-series of events paying $25,000 or more to the winner during the 2022 season.

The total STSS Modified payout is as follows: 1 - $25,000; 2 - $12,500; 3 - $8,000; 4 - $5,000; 5 - $4,000; 6 - $3,000; 7 - $2,500; 8 - $2,250; 9 - $2,000; 10 - $1,750; 11 - $1,500; 12 - $1,400; 13 - $1,300; 14 - $1,200; 15 - $1,100; 16 - $1,000; 17 - $900; 18 - $800; 19 - $700; 20 - $600; 21-26 - $500.

STSS Crate 602 Sportsman will compete for a $2,000 top prize on Saturday, joining the big-block/small-block Modified brethren. A complete Crate 602 Sportsman pay structure will be finalized in the coming weeks.

The weekend of racing at Cherokee begins on Thursday (Feb. 24) with an open practice. Track time will be allotted to both STSS competitors and local drivers.

Friday (Feb. 25) will include fully paid Qualifying Races for both the STSS Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman to set up Saturday™s feature events.

B-Mains for the STSS Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman will kick off Saturday™s (Feb. 26) action followed by the main events.

The series returns to Cherokee after a one-race visit in 2020 when the Northeast was shut down by COVID-19 regulations. The all-time winningest drivers in both the STSS Modified and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman divisions picked up the wins in the only visit to Cherokee.

Sprakers, N.Y.™s Stewart Friesen and Niskayuna, N.Y.™s Tim Hartman Jr. were the winners during the Memorial Day weekend 2020 visit.

The Cherokee event and all ™22 STSS events will be broadcast live on FloRacing (www.floracing.tv).
