Jack Wagner Headlines Midwest Sprints while Kaster, Jewett, and Stonum also Score Wins at Lakeside Speedway!

(Kansas City, Kansas) The annual Weld Family Memorial took place at Lakeside Speedway Friday night with 64 race teams signed in to honor the legendary racing family. The USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association sprint cars drew 25 entries. Also competing were 16 E-Mods, 9 Pure Stocks, and 15 guest class Mod-Lites.
By the end of the night, fans witnessed 8 preliminary heat races and five main events as Jack Wagner collected the Weld Memorial sprint race. Buz Kaster added to his Hall of Fame career with the E-Mod win with Garrett Stonum capturing the Mod-Lite victory, and Marshall Jewett tallying up another win during the Pure Stock main event.
USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association Sprint Cars (25 Cars)
Jack Wagner and Riley Kreisel of Warsaw, Missouri, led the sprint field to the initial green flag but after some close action in turn one, it was Wesley Smith of Nixa, Missouri that led the opening laps. A yellow flag flew early in the event and as it turned out, it was the only slow down in the fast-paced event. On the restart, Smith led Kreisel and Samuel Wagner. At lap five, Kreisel took command of the race and built a sizeable lead over Jack Wagner, who moved to second by lap eight. Kreisel continued to ride the high line with Jack Wagner and Kory Schudy behind him. As drivers continued to turn quick laps, the challenge for the lead gained all attention with Kreisel and Jack Wagner as by lap 17, Wagner found a way around Kreisel to take the lead. From here on Wagner was the driver who built a sizeable lead through lapped traffic leaving Kreisel to fend of Xavier Doney for the runner-up spot. At the checkers, Jack Wagner claimed the victory by a half straightaway lead with Kreisel settling for second over Doney, Samuel Wagner, and Schudy.

Pure Stock Results (9 Cars)
Cody Ohrenberg and Marshall Jewett of Gardner, Kansas, took the green for Pure Stocks as Jewett paced the field early with Spencer Reiff giving chase. Just one caution flag slowed the stocks during their 12-lap main event with a classic battle up front with the number seven cars of Jewett and Reiff. Don Marrs moved into third by lap thre but could not gain ground on the leaders with Jeff Goepferich and Chase Galvan also riding in the top five. Ultimately, Reiff could not find a way around multiple-time champion Jewett, who went on to claim the victory ahead of Reiff, Marrs, Goepferich, and Galvan.

E-Mod Results (16Cars)
The E-Mod main saw fast action, close competition, and heartbreak on the last lap for one driver as Eddie Ingram and Trevor Hand took front row honors at the start. Ingram looked strong leading the way through lap five as the top three, including Steven Makar and Hand, broke away from the rest of the field. By lap nine, a challenge for the lead heated things up with Makar pressuring Ingram for the top spot. At lap ten, caution flew over the field with Ingram leading Makar, Hand, Melvin, and Buz Kaster inside the top five. By lap 12, the top five were jockeying for position with close racing but once again Ingram held the top spot and built a sizeable lead, leaving his closest pursuers to battle for second. Ingram continued to lead as Buz Kaster moved to second in a thrilling lap 14 battle for second, but just as things looked to be going Ingram’s way, his night came to a heartbreaking end coming off turn two just after the white flag as his car slowed pulling to the infield. This led to Kaster, Ingram’s Father-in-Law, grabbing the lead going down the back stretch. Kaster kept his car out front of the hungry pack and went on to claim the win after starting seventh on the grid. Behind Kaster at the line were Makar, Melvin, Dakota Jennings, and Hand. In victory lane, the elated Kaster said he could hardly believe what unfolded on the last lap and thanked the loudly cheering fans for attending the races and welcoming him so warmly into victory lane.

Mod-Lite Results (15 Cars)
All eyes were on Mod-Lite dominator Dillon Raffurty for the 10-lap Mod-Lite feature event but it was David and Michael Raffurty who took front-row starting honors at the start of the race. David Raffurty took command and led Stonum for the first two laps with Dillon Raffurty third. By lap three, it was Stonum who flexed his power to take the lead, leaving Father and Son David and Dillon Raffurty to battle for second. By lap five, fourteenth-starting Ed Griggs moved into the top five and tried to close the gap on the leaders. At the lap eight marker, Stonum had his hands full as Dillon Raffurty moved in to take second over his dad as Griggs continued his move forward in third. On the final lap, Stonum hit all his marks and mastered the big wide sweeping turns of Lakeside Speedway to claim the upset win over Dillon Raffurty in second. Griggs finished a strong third with Michael and David Raffurty rounding out the top five.

Earlier in the week, Tim Powell scored the Tuesday night victory ahead of Terry Schultz and Kyle Henning in B-Mod action while Kacey Shields bested Ed Griggs and Jaylen Wettengel in the Stock Car main. Sam Hafertepe, Jr. picked up the touring sprint win over Dylan Westbrook and Blake Hahn.
