(Kansas City, Kansas) After a weathered-out planned event a few weeks ago, the staff and crew at Lakeside Speedway are gearing up for the rescheduled Weld Memorial race this Friday featuring USAC Midwest Wingless Sprints, Mod-Lites, B-Mods, Stock Cars, and E-Mods. Pure Stocks and A-Mods have the night off. A post-race concert presented by Carstar Auto Body Repair Experts of Lenexa featuring Hudson Drive will follow the races on Friday.

One of the longest-running events in the greater Kansas City, the Weld Memorial honors the past contributions to racing and the Weld family name, synonymous with Kansas City open-wheel racing. The Weld family name features a long list of talent including Pappy, Jerry, Greg, and Kenny and the brand name Weld Wheels & Weld Roadsters. Taylor ‘Pappy’ Weld, along with Greg and Kenny Weld are all in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. In addition to the sprint hall of fame, the Central Auto Racing Boosters Hall of Fame and Museum Incorporated, also honored the Weld family with hall-of-fame inductions for Greg Weld (2005), Jerry Weld (2005), Kenny Weld (2006), Ricky Weld (2012), and Pappy Weld (2004).

Keeping the spirit of open-wheel racing alive in the Weld family name, sprint cars take center stage at Lakeside on Friday night with the second appearance of the USAC Midwest Wingless Racing Association featuring a $2,500-to-win main that pays $300 to start.

Kid’s Night also takes place this weekend with school supplies and other prizes are just a few of the nice things available for the kids, who will participate in foot races on the track during intermission break. Lakeside Speedway wants to thank the Kids Night Sponsors, which includes TPA (Travelers Protective Association), Christy's Tasty Queen, Seeburg Mufflers, Tomkins Industries, and the Bob Reber family.

Lakeside Speedway is currently seeking volunteers and donations for the kid’s night activities. Donations should be items that school-aged children can use for school, hero cards and race pictures, and other items kids ages toddler to age 12 will enjoy. Contact the main office for additional details and donation specifics at 913-299-9206.
