July 7, 2022 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Pulaski, PA)...The Hovis Auto & Truck Supply RUSH Dirt Late Model Series presented by Born2Run Lubricants is set for a doubleheader of Flynn's Tire Touring Series events this weekend. On Saturday night (July 9), the Series will visit Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio for the $3,199 to-win "Bill Forney Memorial" then on Sunday return to Eriez Speedway with $3,000 on the line plus "Manufacturers Night" presented by MSD Performance with $28,000 of product giveaways! Great weather is forecast for both nights. On track action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. both nights.
Saturday will be the only appearance of the season at Sharon for the RUSH Late Models. Bill Forney, who was one of the greatest racers to ever wheel a Late Model in the region, passed away on August 10, 2019 at the age of 92. Forney made famous the candy-striped #199 Late Model, thus the additional $199 added in Memory of Bill from Bill's children, Mike Forney and Anita Carson. The inaugural event was scheduled for 2020; however, was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Last year, Chub Frank made a last lap pass of Joe Martin to win a thriller over the 33-car field. Martin then went on to win the Tour event held on September 11 at Sharon.
Forney was a fixture at both Canfield and Sharon Speedways. Forney's racing prowess earned him the Late Model track championship at Sharon in 1964, and an unprecedented seven championships at Canfield (1959-1960, '61, '63, '65-66, '68) - a track that had a national reputation for tough as nails competition. All totaled, Forney had hundreds of feature wins, many at these two tracks. Forney was inducted into the inaugural Twin State Auto Racing Club's Hall of Fame in 2010, and is also a member of the Cloverleaf Speedway (Cleveland) Hall of Fame.
The Sharon/Canfield/Expo Speedways Drivers Reunion will be held in conjunction with the "Bill Forney Memorial" on Saturday night. Drivers that competed on the dirt at these speedways from 1949-1975 were invited to the event free of charge.
Will Thomas III leads the division's all-time win list at Sharon with 15 victories. Other active racers with multiple wins include Dennis Lunger, Jr. (12), Martin (6), and Latta (4). There have been 24 different winners in 86 Crate Late Model races run all-time at Sharon.
Sunday will mark the 11th edition of "Manufacturers Night", which will take place at Eriez for the third time. MSD Performance proudly presents all of the RUSH Series "Manufacturers Nights" and contributes product as well. Each participating racer on Sunday is guaranteed to walk away with an item valued at the very minimum of $400. The drawings will take place immediately following the drivers meeting, which will get underway at 5:45 p.m. Drivers need to be registered by 5:45 in order to participate in the drawings.
TBM Brakes, the "Official Brakes" of RUSH, annually provides the top prize and this year is no different with one lucky racers taking home four F3 Tornado Brake Calipers and three bottles of brake fluid valued at $1,845. This year's second prize is a Holley 4150 LTS Aluminum Ultra XP 650 CFM Carburetor valued at $1,184. Brad Smith of Velocita-USA gives away several drivers suits a year with RUSH, and one driver on Sunday will win a custom suit valued at $1,100. We welcome back Dynamic Drivelines as a marketing partner and they will give away a carbon fiber driveshaft valued at $729.
The complete list of packages are posted below. It's possible that drivers can win multiple prizes if any prizes are left over. In the event of more than 46 cars, additional packages will be added so that every competing driver will receive a manufacturers package valued at a minimum of $400. Also, one lucky driver will win a $550 certificate from Absolute Powder Coating towards the powder coating of a new chassis and two other racers $50 certificates from Dynamic Drivelines in round two drawings; this will be in addition to his or her manufacturers package.
Past locations of "Manufacturers Nights" with car counts in parentheses are Sharon Speedway in 2012 (57), Pittsburgh's PA Motor Speedway in 2013 (40), McKean County Raceway in 2014 (43), Eriez in 2015 (47), Tri-City Raceway Park 2016-2018 (58, 48, 45), Pittsburgh in 2019 (36), Eriez in 2021 (46), while the 2020 drawings was contested through the Weekly Series points due to COVID-19.
There have been 10 RUSH Tour events completed all-time at Eriez. Max Blair has six victories, while his father Rob has one in a substitution role for Max. Last year, Kyle Hardy swept both events, while his Virginia counterpart Logan Roberson won his first appearance on May 15 this season.
So far this season at Eriez there have been five RUSH Late Model events with four different winners. Besides Roberson's Tour victory, "Track Pack" points leader Jason Genco is the only repeat winner, while Billy Henry, Jr. and Ryan Montgomery have also been victorious in Hovis Weekly Series events.
"We're looking forward to a great doubleheader weekend," expressed RUSH Director Vicki Emig. "Sharon and Eriez are only 80 miles apart. The Bill Forney Memorial event and race were tremendous last year and we're proud to be able to be part of this event again at Sharon. Manufacturers Night is always one of our biggest events of the season and we have to thank Eriez for hosting it for the second straight year and Bradford giving the RUSH cars the night off so their racers can take part. Our marketing partners have again stepped up tremendously so that every competing racer on Sunday will take home a prize package of at least $400!"
Thus far this year, the Flynn's Tire Touring Series has completed nine events with an average car count of nearly 37 per event. There have been seven different winners as only Virginia's Roberson has been able to score multiple victories with three. Other winners include Delaware's Joe Warren, New York racers Chad Homan and John Waters, Florida's Mark Whitener, and most recently Pennsylvania's Michael Norris who joined fellow Keystone State racer Joe Martin as a 2022 winner.
Roberson continues to lead the Flynn's Tire Tour points with eight top 5s and nine top 10 in nine races. Roberson nearly doubled his points lead to 17 after last Saturday night at Pittsburgh. Three-time Tour champion, Jeremy Wonderling continues to trail his brother Brady in the battle for the third spot, but the deficit is just one. Matt Latta was able to overtake Breyton Santee for fifth in points after matching his season best sixth place finish. Santee is sixth with Andy Michael moving into seventh over Ashton Briggs, Canadian Brandt Graham, and Jonathan Stockdale. Canadian Craig Graham, who is 11th in points, leads the D&V Jewelers "Wheelman" Non-Qualifier Championship points.
Each night will include $100 "Shock the Clock" Qualifying and $25 to-win heat races presented by FK Rod Ends. The Sunoco Dash will set the beginning rows of the 30-lap feature lineups and will award the winner a $100 Sunoco fuel gift card. The "Fill'er up with Sunoco Bucks" program will include an additional $400 of Sunoco fuel card giveaways each night; two $100 random draws for drivers in the top 15 of Tour points and another four $50 random draws for all other competitors.
Precise Racing Products will award a $50 gift card for the "Pedal Down" Hard Charger that passes the most cars in the feature each night. The TBM Brakes “Tough Brake of the Night” will award three bottles of Xtreme6 Racing Brake Fluid each night. The feature winner each night will receive a 5-Gallon Race Jug from Precise. Ontime Body & Graphic's "Spoiler Alert" will award a spoiler kit to the 10th place finisher on the first night and the 11th place finisher on the second night (note: if a driver has already won a spoiler this season, spoiler will be awarded to the next position). Performance Bodies will award a $100 gift card to the first non-qualifier each night part of the "Nosed Out" program.
