DelBiaggio Withstands Last Lap Charge To Win

It was a wild and crazy night of racing at Redwood Acres Raceway this past Saturday night. O’Reilly Auto Parts presented a full slate of action on the 3/8-mile paved oval with late models, Upstate Modifieds, Upstate Bombers, Nor Cal Legends and mini stocks all racing for the evening.

Dennis DelBiaggio was the winner of the late model feature but his win did not come easy. Romeo Venza did an impressive job early in the 45-lap main holding off faster and more experienced drivers behind him. Eventually Brandon Barnwell was able to take the lead. The handling on Barnwell’s car appeared to go away in the late stages allowing DelBiaggio to move to the front. Jerry Peterson made a furious last lap charge but DelBiaggio was able to hold on and win. Barnwell placed third followed by Venza and Chad Grammer.

The Upstate Modified Series feature was all about Sierra Furia. The Lakeport resident was dominant, taking the race lead early and never looking back. Eric Price, Jr. moved from the back of the field up to second and looked primed to run down Furia. Unfortunately for Price, he did not have the handling he needed to catch Furia as the race progressed. Furia’s victory came over Price, Sal Martinez, Trystan Mucci and Tom Elam.

Jordan Krupa was also dominant in the Upstate Bomber Series main event but had to be on his toes as Terry Pittman kept within striking distance for most of the 40-lap race. Krupa held a steady wheel and took the win over Pittman, Doug Way, Brayden Carnes and Jimmy Sorrels.

The Nor Cal Legend Series had an impressive turnout of 27 cars with 18 starting in the main event. The 40-lap feature saw several incidents. Brandon White and Kylei Keown made contact in turn three which sent White hard into the wall head-on. Aiden Daniels and Henry Barton had a get-together on the back stretch which forced both drivers out of the race as well. All drivers were uninjured. Cole Brown managed to avoid the chaos and was able to come out on top beating Landen Green, C.J. Dizney, Kylie Daniels and Travis McCullough who was the winner of the B main event.

Jarrett Mayo led from green to checker in the mini stock feature winning over Joe Bonomini and Cole Peterson.

Heat race winners were Barnwell in the late models, White in the Upstate Modifieds, Krupa and Sorrels in the Upstate Bombers, T.J. Buzzard, McCullough and Barton in the Nor Cal Legends and Mayo in the mini stocks. McCullough won the Nor Cal Legends B feature while Jarrett Dickson placed second to transfer to the main event.

Qualifying was paced by Barnwell in the late models with a 16.141, Price in the Upstate Modifieds with a 16.388, Pittman in the Upstate Bombers with a 17.958, Green in the Nor Cal Legends with a 17.569 and Mayo with an 18.949.

Tickets are currently available for Redwood Acres Raceway’s next race on Saturday August 31 on RacinTheAcres.com. This is the make-up date for the Spears SRL Southwest Tour event that was originally scheduled for July. The Spears Modified Series and the Nor Cal Legend Series will also be in action.
