SAME PLACE, FAMILIAR PACE: Josh Leonard Claims Dave Garmann Opening Night

Dodge City, Kansas 6/14/2024 (www.highplainslatemodelseries.com) - Thirty-Eight High Plains Kansas DirtCar Late Model Series drivers checked in for the opening night of the Dave Garmann Memorial race at Dodge City Raceway Park. To start the night, Nutrien Ag Solutions Qualifying took to the ? mile track. Dan Smith, who held the previous record, would only go and shatter it again. Out of 38 cars, only four cars could reach the 15-second bracket, as Dan Smith posted a 15.854 lap-time.

Four Classic Heating and Air Heat races determined how the rest of the night would go. Eli Ross, Jason Rogers, Kip Hughes and Josh Leonard all made their way to the front of their respective heat races, as the front rows for the A-Main were determined.

Two last chance qualifiers took to the track, seeing Troy Burkhart and Delbert Smith advancing to the main show with a win. Top three finishers from each qualifier would then lock into the final starting spots in the main feature.

With the field lined up and twenty-five laps on the board, drivers were ready to bring their late models to life. On the initial start, Tad Pospisil would defend for the top spot, but within a lap, Josh Leonard was already knocking on the door…

After a few laps of battle, Josh Leonard would make the move to the inside of Pospisil and that was all a he wrote for the #85. A winner a month ago at Dodge City Raceway Park, Josh Leonard quickly made his way back into victory lane for his second Series win out of the first three races.

“I was a little free on the bottom, Tad he got tight their, and that’s how we got by him” said Leonard. “That guy right their wins a lot of races, he will go back and work on his stuff tonight, but to beat a guy like him tonight, we’ll take it” Leonard finished.

The High Plains Kansas DirtCar Late Model Series will be back in action Saturday for the $4,000 to win late model feature race. The pits are scheduled to open at 3:00 PM, Gates at 5:00 PM, and Racing to start at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased at the track. You can view the races live on RacinDirt.Com or on the MyRacePass app.
