Covington Shifts Focus to ASCS National, After Month of Experience With the Outlaws
Matt Covington Racing, Glenpool, Ok (April 17th, 2024) After making it home from a stretch of racing with the Outlaws, Matt Covington and the team prepare for Super Bee Speedway to finally kick off the ASCS National Tour with the World Racing Group.
Covington is coming off a tough learning curve after taking advantage of a break in his 360 schedule to run with the Outlaws, allowing for some valuable seat time in the 410.
“Last weekend at I-55 was mixed with good and bad,” stated Covington. “Those Outlaw guys are fast, and the last couple of tracks we raced had speed and character. On both nights, we had decent speed, especially on Friday. I feel like we had a shot of making the dash after our great qualifying effort, but the right rear flat in the heat derailed those chances and the night. Saturday, we made it out of the heat with the transfer to the feature. We were able to get some laps in before a mechanical issue sent us pit-side. Over the last month, we have definitely gained some knowledge between qualifying, the balance of the car and lighter front ends, the fuel load, and just the pace of the 410, especially with the Outlaws. I am very confident this is going to translate well for us as the year goes on. I am glad we got that experience and laps in, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t excited and looking forward to getting back in the 360 to start the ASCS National Tour.”
Covington will look to start off strong with the ASCS National tour during the season opener this weekend at Super Bee Speedway on Friday and Saturday in Louisiana.
