Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 22, 2019) – Roger Crockett earned his second Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour triumph of the season last Saturday during the 46th annual Winter Nationals finale at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

The strong run marked his third consecutive podium finish and fifth in the last seven ASCS National Tour events, increasing his advantage in third place in the championship standings with only two races remaining this season.

Crockett kicked off the weekend on Friday by winning a heat race from the second starting position.

“It’s always good when you can draw the front row,” he said. “You have to win it and we were able to do that. We were tied for fourth in points and drew the six (in the feature redraw).

“I think on the first lap of the feature I went from sixth to third. We trucked along for a little bit and capitalized on a mistake from Harli (White) to get to second. The track lights went out under yellow so we had it opened up for a long red. I second guessed every decision and didn’t make my car better. Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) was a lot better after the red and we weren’t quite as good.”

Crockett finished second, which was his eighth podium of the season during ASCS National Tour competition.

The weekend concluded on Saturday with a perfect night as Crockett won a heat race from third before capturing the feature victory from the pole position.

“We had a good draw and were able to capitalize on a good start in the heat race,” he said. “We got into second and tracked the leader down and got by him. The track was pretty tricky because there wasn’t a lot of grip out there.

“In the feature we got the lead around Lap 4. We got into traffic a few times and it got really tough. The car would get really tight. Turns three and four widened out a little bit. Sam pressured us, but we were able to make some moves in traffic. You’d start getting near other cars and it gets hard to get near them without upsetting your car. It’s hard when everyone is so fast. The air helps the nose turn so much. When you lose a little bit of it and you’re not ready for it it makes it really hard to keep it where you’re going.”

Crockett will take this weekend off before wrapping up the season Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Fort Worth, Texas, during the Tony Stewart presents the VANKOR Texas Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
