Hill Records Career-Best Devil’s Bowl Winter Nationals Finish

Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 22, 2019) – Alex Hill overcame poor track position and a challenging racing surface to score her career-best Winter Nationals result on Saturday during the 46th edition of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Hill began her evening in an all too familiar position for her lately – at the back of her heat race.

“We haven’t been drawing well lately,” said Hill, who has started at or near the back of all but one of her last 10 heat races. “Usually, that’s not too big of an issue. But lately the tracks haven’t been racy – just hammer-down and really tough to pass. We had the same issue both nights this weekend with a bad draw and a track where it was tough to pass.”

After finishing eighth in her heat race, Hill rolled off sixth in the B Main.

“I was able to get a couple of cars on the start and then one in front of us broke so we finished third and transferred to the A.”

Hill started 19th in the weekend finale and maintained her position on a track that wasn’t conducive to passing, finishing 18th.

“The fastest way around the track in the A Main was around the bottom and that’s where everyone ran,” she said.

Another poor draw on Friday led to another B Main start, this time from the ninth starting spot.

“I was able to move up a couple of spots and I got real close to the guy who was in the final transfer spot,” she said. “I tried to slide him, but couldn’t get it done and finished one spot short of transferring to the A Main. The track was slick from the bottom to the top.”

Hill used a provisional to start at the back of the main event and she pulled off the track early.

She will be idle from racing this weekend before returning to competition on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track in Fort Worth, Texas, during the Tony Stewart presents the VANKOR Texas Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
