Inside Line Promotions – BELGRADE, Mont. (July 16, 2019) – Circumstances beyond her control likely kept Alex Hill from the Grizzly Nationals A Main Friday night during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour show at Gallatin Speedway.

Hill started fourth in the night’s B Main, which sent the top six finishers to the evening’s main event.

“I was running in a transfer spot early in the race when a guy in front of me got sideways,” she said. “I had nowhere to go and hit him and also hit an infield tire, bending our drag link and front axle. I was able to continue racing, but the steering was off quite a bit and I dropped back a number of positions.

“I was actually able to move up later in the race in spite of the steering issue. I got back to seventh and was gaining on the sixth-place car for the final transfer spot when there was a caution late in the race. I lost some ground on the restart and finished ninth.”

Hill began the night with a disappointing heat race, in which she started second and finished fifth.

“The bottom of the track was the fastest so it was difficult starting on the outside,” she said. “Several cars got by me while I was on the outside. Once I got to the bottom we were about as fast as anyone else, but it was pretty much follow the leader then and really tough to pass anyone.”

The haste of the evening’s program also affected Hill and her team.

“They were in a big rush to get the races in due to the weather and curfew so my crew chief and I didn’t get a chance to watch any races,” she said. “We weren’t as prepared as we’d like to be, but it was the same for everyone.”

Hill’s hope for redemption on the second night of the doubleheader failed to materialize.

“We were hoping to do better on Saturday night, but the rain took care of that,” she said.

Hill is looking forward to a busy racing schedule for the next week with four races in five days. She’ll compete with the ASCS National Tour at Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Mont., on Friday and Saturday and then return home for competition at the Summer Nationals hosted by Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, on Monday and Tuesday.

“I’m looking forward to racing at Big Sky,” she said. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. But it will be our first time there so it will probably be a bit of a challenge.

“I’m especially looking forward to returning to my home track – Ohsweken Speedway. I feel we’ve improved a lot in the last year and I’m hoping we can show that at Ohsweken.”
