Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 11, 2018) – Marshall Skinner enjoyed a pair of successful nights of competition during the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals last weekend at I-30 Speedway.

Skinner qualified for the A Main on both Friday night and Saturday night at the prestigious ASCS Mid-South Region event, which showcased more than 70 cars each night.

“It was just a good deal,” he said. “There were 70-plus cars there both nights. We qualified for the A Main each night and finished both races, so I was happy as happy can be after all I’ve been through lately. I really couldn’t ask for much more.”

The performance came at a great time as Skinner has been frustrated by this season.

“I ain’t gonna lie, it’s been a financial deal,” he said. “I just didn’t have the money to put it all back together. And I still didn’t, really and truly.

“I knocked the front end out at the Ralph Henson race and then I crashed and flipped at the Fall Nationals at Riverside. Man, I was ready to quit. I was already waist deep into trying to get a motor back together since I broke one motor and the one I was running had so many nights on it that it needed to be freshened.

“I just want to thank my wife, Kristy, for her support and for several sponsors who stepped up to make this happen. We wouldn’t be talking about this if it wasn’t for Jack and Bonnie at J&J, Donnie Cooper and Derek Hagar.”

Skinner’s change of recent luck began before he took to the track on Friday.

“Friday was kind of a ‘luck of the draw’ deal,” he said. “I started in the front of the heat race and won it. I lost one position in the qualifier and finished third in the B Main, so that got me the last starting spot in the A, where I finished 18th.”

Skinner started last in his heat race on Saturday, but he was aided by other drivers’ misfortunes.

“I started dead last so all you can do is go forward,” he said. “The track was real wet and tough to pass on. The deal between Brady Bacon and Sammy Swindell was what eventually put me in the show since it helped me to finish fifth. I’ll take any luck I can get now. I’ve been on the other end of that deal for the last couple of months.”

Skinner started seventh in his qualifier and moved forward to finish third.

“I had a heckuva race with Joe B. Miller and Carson Short in the qualifier,” he said. “Them boys is young and on the gas. It was a lot of fun.”

He started the event’s finale from the 11th starting spot.

“We moved up a bit until there was a yellow,” he said. “Then when we took off again I was way too tight and dropped back. I guess the right rear lost some air while we were riding around under the yellow and it took me a while to get going again. Then I had some good racing with Carson Short and Morgan Turpen and eventually finished 15th.”

Skinner’s next scheduled race is this Friday and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the USCS Series.
