Price Makes Debut at the Short Track Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 9, 2018) – Robbie Price made the long trek to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., last weekend to compete in the 31st annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals. Driving the No. 1 for Casey Minks, the Canadian was part of a stout 80-plus car field during the prestigious event at the quarter-mile bullring.

“Marc Huson at Shark Engines kind of put the deal together for me,” Price said. “He is good buddies with Casey Minks and they were able to work everything out. Casey had been out of racing for a while and is getting back into it. He put a car together and I was able to go down there and race for him.”

Price started the two-night event on Friday with a fourth-place finish in heat race competition. That put him in a qualifier, in which he ran fifth. The native of Cobble Hill, B.C., ended the first night of the Short Track Nationals in a B Main, crossing the finish line 14th after having a problem with the fuel system.

“We practiced on Thursday night and found a few things for Friday night,” he said. “Being out for so long, a lot of things we dealt with were kind of situations like a new team would deal with. We broke a bar in the heat race so we were working on that before the qualifier and just didn’t keep up with the track enough and fell way back in the qualifier. There was a stumble in the B Main so I pulled in to save everything for Saturday night.”

In Saturday’s finale of the Short Track Nationals, Price powered his way to a second-place finish in a heat race after starting fourth. In the fourth qualifier, the young driver finished third. Price came up just a couple of spots short of transferring from the second B Main, finishing sixth.

“The car was a lot better on Saturday night,” he said. “We did struggle a bit all weekend for forward bite. We honestly were a little behind the eight ball all weekend, with it being everyone’s first time racing in a while. We felt like we had speed all weekend. If a few things were different, maybe we could have finished a little better. We rolled the car into the trailer and we didn’t have to run a C main all weekend, which a lot of good cars were stuck in the ‘C’s’. It was good in that respect, but still frustrating to not be in the show.”

Price will return to action Oct. 18-20 during the 25th annual Trophy Cup at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., aboard his family owned No. 21P.
