Inside Line Promotions – WHEATLAND, Mo. (Sept. 26, 2018) – Derek Hagar extended his streak of recording at least one top-10 finish during the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial to seven straight seasons after posting a pair of top 10s last weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.

“It feels good,” he said. “We seem to shine when we go to Lucas Oil Speedway. It’s a special race. Me and Jesse were teammates in the silver crown car the year he passed away. It was cool to be a teammate with Jesse and now to go out there and be competitive as we have the last few years is special. There’s something about that track and that event.”

Hagar opened the eighth edition of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com event on Thursday by rallying from seventh to fourth place in a heat race. He placed second in a heat race to lock into the 11th starting position for the A Main.

“The track was rubbered up so there wasn’t much passing,” he said. “We were able to drive up to seventh so that was a good outing.”

Friday’s action didn’t start as strong for Hagar, who lined up seventh in a heat race again, but was only able to gain two positions. He then finished where he started – seventh – in a qualifier, which relegated him to a B Main. A runner-up result in the consolation race garnered a transfer into the back of the main event.

“We got behind the eight ball on Friday, but we drove our way up to seventh in the feature,” he said. “The track rubbered up up top and I got passed by a car before I could get up there.”

Hagar hustled from 20th to an eighth-place finish, which earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars. The two top 10s ranked Hagar seventh in event points out of more than 50 competitors. That locked him into the seventh starting position for Saturday’s main event.

“We locked ourselves into the show, but we just misread the race track,” he said. “I was way too tight and I couldn’t get through the corner with the speed that I needed like the other guys. We hung on for a little while. As the race went on and the track got better the worse my car got.”

Hagar held on for a 12th-place finish.

“I wish we had a better night Saturday, but it was a great weekend overall,” he said.

Hagar will return to action this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark.
