Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (Sept. 26, 2018) – Cody Tankersley is excited to make his fifth career start in a winged sprint car this Saturday during the ASCS Gulf South Region season finale.

Tankersley will join his older brother, Channin, in a second entry for Old School Racing during the event at Battleground Speedway.

“My goal is to learn the most I can in order to get more experience going to Short Track Nationals,” Cody Tankersley said. “We’re planning on racing it next month.”

The younger Tankersley has improved each time he has climbed into a sprint car. He made his debut in September 2015 during a doubleheader at Battleground Speedway, finishing in the B Main on the opening night before making the feature the following race.

It then took a couple of years before Tankersley strapped back into a sprint car, which occurred earlier this month at South Texas Speedway in Corpus Christi, Texas. Tankersley earned his first career top 10 with a ninth-place run on the opening night before posting a career-best eighth-place finish the next night.

“The first night was iffy, but the second night was better,” he said. “I was more comfortable and did better learning the car in general.”

While Tankersley doesn’t have extensive experience in a sprint car, he is used to racing on dirt. Tankersley has raced several different types of cars and is currently competing in the factory stock division. He has four feature wins this year.

“Driving a sprint car is a big time different animal,” he said. “It’s a different driving style. You drive them with the throttle instead of the other way around.

“I’d like to pursue it if the opportunity is there. Right now I’m cherishing every opportunity I get to drive one.”
