Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (Aug. 1, 2018) – Brian Brown has won a lot of races at Knoxville Raceway and many of those were marquee events.

Brown claimed the 360 Knoxville Nationals in 2014 and he picked up a Capitani Classic triumph last year. Both events are on tap this weekend at the half-mile oval, where Brown will tackle the 28th annual 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank with a preliminary night on Thursday prior to Saturday’s $15,000-to-win finale. The Capitani Classic closes out the weekend on Sunday.

“We’ve had the mentality the last couple of years that whatever race that’s next on the calendar is the most important race of the year,” he said. “We’ll go in there with our best Charlie Garrett 360 and with our best Maxim car and we’ll see how we stack up. If we do our job we can contend for a win.”

Brown has had a banner year at Knoxville Raceway this season, winning seven 410ci winged sprint car main events as well as a 360ci winged sprint car show.

His team got one final test in last Saturday during an Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions race that featured more than 50 other competitors. Brown qualified 12th quickest overall, but the fastest in his group. He then maneuvered from fourth to win a heat race and from sixth to third place in a dash to line up on the inside of the third row for the 25-lap A Main.

“We drew a late number and we were able to set quick time in our group,” he said. “In the heat race we were able to get to third real quick, then up to second and pass Brooke (Tatnell) to win. It was one of the best cars we’ve had in a heat all year long. We went sixth to third in a dash and felt like we had a chance to win.

“We wanted to go back to normal for a feature to see if what we were doing was headed in the right direction. Normal was not as good as what we’d been doing. On the start I missed the bottom and lost five or six spots. I think I fell to 10th or 12th. I had to work hard to get back to fourth. When there’s 55 cars and you run fourth and you’re disappointed it shows the type of season you’ve had.”

Brown also competed with the All Stars on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn. He timed in fourth quickest overall, placed fourth in a heat race and ended third in a dash to start the A Main sixth.

“We were really good in the feature,” he said. “I felt like we were a top-three car, but we weren’t as good in the middle to the end of the race as we needed. When it started laying rubber I didn’t get down quick enough. The next thing you know you’re running 10th. It was disappointing, but like I told the guys fourth, fifth, seventh or 12th, if you don’t win it doesn’t matter where you end up.”

Brown finished with a 12th-place result.
