Hill Rallies for Top-15 Finish in First Visit to Route 66 Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – AMARILLO, Texas (June 11, 2018) – Alex Hill scored a top-15 finish during her debut at Route 66 Motor Speedway on Saturday night when the oval hosted Round 2 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek.
A poor draw for her heat race combined with a one-lane track from rain that delayed the race until 10:30 p.m. forced her to start 20th in the 22-car field, where she advanced to finish 15th.
“There wasn’t much we could do in the heat race,” said Hill, who started and finished seventh. “It was hammer down and hard to pass. But we did pretty good in the feature. The car was really fast and we were able to move forward a bit.”
Hill finished 18th in the feature the previous night during the Speedweek opener at West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas – another new track for her.
“We were pretty fast all night,” she said. “We were racing hard for third in the heat and I kind of backed off a bit since everyone made the feature and I finished fifth. I had a good car in the feature, but I should’ve been running up high instead of on the bottom.”
The remainder of Speedweek will present more challenges to Hill with Tuesday’s show at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, being the only track of the four that she has raced at before. She’s hoping that a new car she’ll debut at Devil’s Bowl Speedway will lead to stronger finishes.
“We put a new car together for Tuesday,” she said. “Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) made some big changes to it with the way I sit. It should make me more comfortable in the car.”
The remaining Speedweek shows are Wednesday at Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla.; Thursday at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla.; and Saturday at Salina Speedway in Salina, Kan.
