Rilat Earns Best Winter Nationals Finale Finish at Devil’s Bowl Since 2009

Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 24, 2017) – Travis Rilat posted his best result during a Winter Nationals finale since 2009 on Saturday when he scored an eighth-place finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway during the 44th edition of the marquee event.

Rilat was driving for BDS Motorsports during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader, which marked his first race in approximately three months. The action began on Friday when he maneuvered from eighth to seventh in a heat race and from ninth to fifth place in the B Main to earn a transfer into the back of the A Main.

“It was the first time driving for Bryan Sundby and my first race in a few months so it took a while to get rolling,” he said. “It certainly didn’t help that we started last in our heat race, but we made progress in the heat and B Main and we continued that into the main event.”

Rilat charged from 21st to an 11th-place finish in the main event, which was the third-most cars passed.

The team continued to improve on Saturday during the finale. Rilat powered from sixth to second place in a heat race to make the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 6 to start the A Main on the outside of the third row.

“We got a good start, but got stuck in the slick under a guy in turn one,” he said. “That cost us a couple of positions right there. The track was very tough to pass on so that moment was pretty critical for our finishing position. If we were able to get through there with a pass I think we’d have finished in the top five.”

Rilat raced inside the top 10 for the remainder of the race before ending eighth, which was also his finish in the 2009 Winter Nationals finale.

“Thanks to Bryan and his team for the opportunity,” he said. “It was a fun weekend.”
