Reutzel Eyes Mores Lucas Oil Speedway Success after Fremont Double

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (September 21, 2017) – Aaron Reutzel’s last visit to Lucas Oil Speedway resulted in a trip to victory lane aboard the Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution/BC Fundz No. 87 Triple-X Sprint Car.

With a $10,000 winner’s share on the line for this weekend’s Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks”, it’s a trip that Reutzel hopes to repeat.

“Hopefully we can keep it going, it’s a good payday,” Reutzel said of the weekend’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event that unfolds over the course of Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Reutzel and the Wren Motorsports/Momentum Racing Suspensions team come into the Wheatland, Missouri event after a weekend of racing action at Ohio’s Fremont Speedway.

After a sixth-place finish in Friday’s opening portion of the Jim and Joanne Ford Classic, Reutzel missed the cut for Saturday’s finale.

“We had plenty of speed all weekend, we just didn’t have the luck to go with it,” Reutzel says of the weekend. “All in all, it was fun going out there.”

Plenty of speed indeed aboard the Nattress Construction/Wings Unlimited mount, as Reutzel timed in third among Friday night’s 39-car field and then fifth among Saturday’s field of 40 entries.

But the racing gods weren’t on the side of the No. 87 this time around.

After holding on to the third position in Friday’s heat race to make the feature, Reutzel was handed the sixth starting position in the revenge draw.

Reutzel worked his way forward to third in short order and went to work on the lead duo aboard the Wright Way Logistics/Walker Performance machine. Reutzel made the pass for second and was set to slide for the lead, only to have the move negated on multiple occasions.

“It put us back to third each time, then it would take four or five laps to get going again,” Reutzel recalls.

Reutzel got going each time and was set to make one last bid for the lead in Friday’s $5,000-to-win feature event.

“(Tim) Shaffer and I came up on second, I biked it up on the cushion and fell off the track,” Reutzel says.

Reutzel made his way back on track to salvage a strong sixth-place finish.

After Saturday’s strong qualifying effort, Reutzel gridded his heat fourth as only three transferred. “Byron (Reed) was inside of us and got the jump,” Reutzel explains of the heat race.

Settling for fourth in the heat race, Reutzel started “B” Main action in fifth. “Shaffer was outside of us and got the jump, then it was pretty much all around the bottom,” Reutzel says. “We just never could get going.”

Reutzel looks to get things going on a strong note with Thursday night’s opening leg of the Jesse Hockett/Daniel McMillin Memorial at Lucas Oil Speedway.

2017 Quick Stats: 66 races, 6 wins, 23 top-fives, 36 top-tens.
