Wednesdays with Wayne - Double Duty Goes Well in Jackson!

(Bill W) September 6, 2017 – Wayne Johnson and the Two-C Racing #2c team racked up a second-place finish in 410 competition and a fourth with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Series last Saturday night at Jackson Motorplex in Minnesota. The two-night show was reduced to a one-night stand when rain canceled things after the heats Friday. This weekend, the team will hit a pair of ASCS Red River region events, Friday at Flint Creek Speedway in Colcord, Oklahoma and Saturday at I-30 Speedway near Little Rock, Arkansas.

Before the rains came Friday, Wayne felt good about the car. “We were able to win the heat on Friday in the 360,” he says. “That put us in the redraw, and even though it rained out, we still drew a seven. So things were par for the course as far as the draw went!”

He drove from fourth to second in Saturday’s ASCS heat race. “The car was good in the heat,” says Wayne. “We drew a seven again. The track was laying rubber. Everyone was running the top early, and I was running more in the middle of the track. We were able to get by some guys in three and four. Late in the race, it started laying rubber, so seventh to fourth wasn’t bad, I guess.”

Wayne timed in ninth quick with the 410 after coming out 21st in the order. He then ran from fourth to third in the heat. After the ASCS feature, there was track prep for the 410 finale. “They did a really good job reworking the track for the 410 feature,” he says. “It was a pretty good racetrack. It had a couple lanes early, and then the bottom kind of went away and you had to go to the top. I’m sure it was tough for the fans to wait forty-five minutes to have it reworked, but I think the racing was worth it.”

Wayne drove a solid race. After starting third, he finished in the runner-up position. “It was probably the best we’ve felt all year in the 410,” he says. “We’re finally figuring out what we have to do to those things to get me comfortable. That was only our ninth 410 race of the year, and everything went well.”
