Bellm Tackles the Highbanks after another Pair of Podium Finishes

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (August 25, 2017) – Kyle Bellm and the Resource Asset Management Solutions (RAMS) No. 14k Sprint Car team fired back into action last weekend in strong form by posting another pair of podium finishes.

After pushing the season total to 14 overall top-five finishes, including nine in the last ten starts, the Nixa, MO, racer is back in action aboard the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision entry for Saturday night’s ASCS Red River tilt at Oklahoma’s Salina Highbanks Speedway.

“We want to continue to see as many different tracks as we can, I feel like that keeps us sharper as a team,” Bellm commented.

Last weekend’s pair of events in Missouri started out with another Lake Ozark Speedway outing on Saturday night before taking in Sunday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Sedalia’s Missouri State Fair Speedway. Bellm found himself on the podium both nights with a runner-up run at Lake Ozark and then a third-place finish at Sedalia.

After racing from sixth to third in his heat race atop Eldon’s Lake Ozark Speedway 1/3-mile clay oval on Saturday, Bellm gridded the feature third aboard the Kannady Racing Engines/Heidbreder Foundation Service entry.
Bellm ran third much of the way, chasing Randy Martin and Austin Alumbaugh until taking advantage of a late restart to snare second.

“I had a really good restart, I went to the top and got by Alumbaugh,” Bellm explains. “I tried to get under Randy (Martin) in three and four, but he ducked down to the bottom to block.”

Bellm ran out of time to get another run at Martin and settled for second after winning four of his five previous features at Lake Ozark Speedway.

“Maybe I should have gone to the top of three and four to try to get by, I just ran out of room on the bottom,” Bellm says. “It was another good night for us there, we’re definitely looking forward to their Nationals in a couple of weeks.”

Action shifted to the large ½-mile Sedalia oval on Sunday for Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action with Bellm moving the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions machine from third to second in his heat race to land a spot in the redraw.

“We redrew the six and got up to fourth pretty quick, then got another spot when Aaron (Reutzel) got into trouble in traffic,” Bellm recalls. “Then we got around (Gio) Scelzi for second.”

Bellm held down second aboard the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care machine until the closing rounds when Brian Brown slipped by, leaving Bellm to round out the podium in third. Only a June 10 win at Amarillo ranks as a better ASCS National Tour finish for Bellm this season.

“I should have pulled the wing back coming off of turn two, I got just a little loose and let Brown get by,” Bellm says.

Another strong weekend has the team in good form going into the closing weekends of the year.

“We have some really good momentum right now,” Bellm says. “We’ve been rolling along, running really well.”

Bellm and the No. 14k crew look to carry that momentum into Saturday’s card atop the Salina Highbanks Speedway.

2017 Quick Stats: 27 races, 5 wins, 14 top-fives, 14 top-tens.
