Inside Line Promotions – TULSA, Okla. (Nov. 9, 2016) – Josh Baughman produced his most successful season in a sprint car during the 2016 campaign.
Baughman recorded a pair of feature victories, including his first career 410ci winged sprint car triumph and his first ever with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
“Those were definitely highlights,” he said. “To win races against some of the best drivers in the country gives our team a lot of confidence. We left some wins on the table, but we had some good wins.”
Baughman’s first trip to Victory Lane during a 410 race came in July during a visit to Western Pennsylvania, where he snagged the win at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver.
“Having a lot of my dad’s friends and family there and going to a place I haven’t been since I was 9-years-old and watching the World of Outlaws race was really special,” he said. “That meant a lot to not only get to race in front of my family out there, but to win the race as well.”
Baughman also had a big winning moment in March when he captured an ASCS National Tour victory at Bronco Raceway Park in Cleveland, Texas.
“That was huge,” he said. “I made a mistake the night before racing for the win. Going into that night we had our heads down and felt like we gave up a win, but our team never quit. To fight back and get a win, especially of that magnitude, was a big boost for our team.”
Baughman ended the season with 15 top fives and 23 top 10s. He will also finish in the top 10 in the ASCS National Tour championship standings despite missing several races.
“I think we had a pretty good season,” he said. “The wins were great moments and we learned a lot this year. I’m so grateful to my guys for their hard work and our sponsors for their support. I’m really looking forward to next season.”
Baughman said he will likely open the season with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series after the Florida event in February.
“I’ll probably do the first 25 races with the Outlaws after Florida,” he said. “I want to have fun with it. We won’t be predominantly a 360 team or a 410 team. We’ve geared up to where we can race anywhere we want to race.”
