Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 20, 2015) – Derek Hagar kicked off last weekend’s 42nd annual Winter Nationals by recording a top-10 finish at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

Hagar, who made his season debut driving for Danny King during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader, opened Friday’s race by finishing where he started – second – in a heat race. That was good enough to lock the team into the main event.

“We had a good night on Friday,” he said. “We made the show out of 45 cars and that car only races one or two times per year. It makes you feel pretty good.

“We backed up early in the feature. I bet I fell to 16th or 17th. It took a minute for the car to come in. It wasn’t working in the slick. I moved around a bit and got my wing back as far as I could and then worked our way back up to 10th. It was a good night.”

Hagar’s 10th-place result marked his fifth top 10 of the season with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and his 35th top 10 overall.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at the half-mile oval, where Hagar dropped from third to fifth place during a heat race.

“On Saturday we missed it pretty good,” he said. “They called us up to staging a couple of races early and we didn’t stay on top of the race track. It slicked off pretty quick. When I looked at it before I got ready we decided it’d hold a bit of moisture. They called us up there to get in staging and we sat up there for three modified races. I knew as soon as we pushed on the track we’d struggle. I tried to make the best of it, but it didn’t work out.”

That relegated Hagar to a B Main, where he advanced from sixth to fourth place to miss a transfer by only one spot.

“The track rubbered up by that point,” he said. “It got to where we couldn’t make any moves on anybody. We stayed in fourth the whole B Main.”

Hagar will return to action Oct. 28-31 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 28th annual Comp Cams Short Track Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
