Inside Line Promotions – MESQUITE, Texas (Oct. 20, 2015) – Channin Tankersley capped the 42nd annual Winter Nationals by earning his season-best result with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

“We’ve had good speed since we’ve been running with Bruce Griffith, but we can’t seem to get the finishes down,” he said. “We put a whole night together on Saturday and that’s what we’ve been striving for.”

The doubleheader began on Friday with Tankersley starting third in a heat race.

“Friday night started off great in hot laps,” he said. “I was pretty confident. We went into the first corner (of the heat race) and I checked up a little to get the car turned. When I did somebody got into me in the nerf bar. It wadded the steering up. It was messing it up enough to where we couldn’t stay smooth after that. Then we blew a tire out so we didn’t finish the heat race.”

That relegated Tankersley to start ninth in a B Main, which only transferred the top three to the main event.

“We made a couple of passes, but the track was so fast and follow the leader it was hard to do anything without getting dirty,” he said. “We ended up finishing seventh.”

Saturday started out on a better note for Tankersley, who rallied from eighth to fourth place during a heat race.

“I didn’t have the speed I would like, but we were consistent,” he said. “The track started slicking off pretty good in the heat race. I got a really good start and got up to fourth within the first few laps. After that I caught two guys in front of me, but it was one of those deals on a big track like that where it’s up on the cushion so it’s hard to get around somebody.”

That locked him into the 14th starting position for the main event.

“We had a good direction to go in the A Main,” he said. “We had been fighting a free car all weekend so we tightened it up a lot. Right away I knew we were good. Even though it was starting to lay rubber everybody was moderately free. I made all my moves in the first five or six laps. After that it was pretty much follow the leader in the rubber.”

Tankersley quickly maneuvered into the top 10 before he ended the race with a seventh-place result.

He will take this weekend off before wrapping up the season Oct. 28-31 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., for the 28th annual Comp Cams Short Track Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
