Covington Idle This Weekend In Preperation For Devils Bowl After 3rd Place Run At Lucas Oil Speedway

Covington Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (Oct 1, 2015) Matt Covington had an unfortunate DNF followed by a solid 3rd place finish on Saturday this past weekend at the Lucas Oil Speedway with the ASCS National Tour.

On Friday night, Matt and the team took on the first night of the Hockett/McMillin Memorial double header weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway.

After a decent draw, Covington came home 3rd in the heat from the 4th starting spot. Due to the big car count and stout competition, Matt narrowly missed the feature based on points and had to run the B. In the B feature, he got caught up in a racing accident and was forced to use a provisional to start the A feature.

In the main, Matt was able to battle his way to the front for the first part of the race. He was racing right outside the top-10 when he was unfortunately collected in another racing incident. Matt and the team had to call it a night due to the damage sustained in the crash.

Saturday night had Covington and the crew prepping the car for what he hoped to be a strong run after the bad luck on Friday night.

After a deep pill draw, Matt had his work cut out for him landing the 8th starting spot in the heat. Covington made the best of starting in the back and charged from 8th to 3rd in the heat to advance to the night’s re-draw.

Matt found himself lining up on the front row of the feature after pulling the number 1 starting position. At the drop of the green, Covington battled out front with the leaders for a handful of laps before the track started to fade. Matt was fighting hard and dicing it up with the leader before falling back to 2nd. When the two raced into lap traffic, Matt got shuffled back to the 3rd with a slight bobble on corner exit. As the laps started to wind down, he worked back up to the 2nd place car, stalking him and trying to find a way around. But when the checkers waved Matt ultimately had to settle for a 3rd place finishing position.

“This past weekend was a tad disappointing for me, but all in all it was a very solid showing for our team,” stated Covington. “We had a solid night going Friday but got caught up in a hard fought racing accident in the feature. On Saturday night it was a bummer to not get the win after drawing the pole but, to be honest, we had a good car, just not that little extra we needing to stay ahead of Loyet. He was fast. But I am very proud of the effort and I would just like to thank Jerry, Dad, Tyler, and Shane for all their work this weekend along with all our supporters for giving us the chance to have such a positive overall weekend and be out here doing what I love to do. The season is winding down and we will continue to work hard and see if we can’t get us a win along with some strong top-5s before we close the year out.”
