Inside Line Promotions – HIGHLANDS, Texas (July 21, 2015) – Channin Tankersley has climbed back into the race for the ASCS Gulf South Region championship following a solid outing last weekend during the 14th annual Summer Nationals.

Tankersley pocketed a pair of top fives to advance to second in the standings – only 67 points out of the lead.

“Overall I’m pretty satisfied,” he said. “We worked our butts off the whole weekend to get what we got. We were fighting handling issues all weekend. We were just super tight.”

The weekend began on Friday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas, where Tankersley advanced from sixth to fourth place during a heat race. That put him ninth in overall points, which missed a spot in the feature redraw by only one position and lined him up ninth for the main event.

“We didn’t get off to the start we wanted,” he said. “We started off a little on the slow side, but got a lot faster throughout the night. We struggled to get a little speed out of it for some reason. The car was pretty snug all night. We threw some stuff at it before the main event trying to free it up because the track was super fast. It was kind of hard to pass on because everybody was going well. We managed to get a couple of guys on the start of the feature and picked off a couple more throughout the race. We just didn’t have that little extra to move forward like we wanted to.”

Tankersley ended with a fourth-place result.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at Battleground Speedway.

“It started where we finished on Friday,” he said. “The car was still not 100 percent where we wanted it, but we worked on it and worked on it.”

Tankersley, who rallied from seventh to third place during a heat race to make the feature redraw, started the feature on the outside of the second row.

“Finally come time for the A Main we had it pretty good,” he said. “I got up to second on the first lap and took the lead about six to eight laps into it. I led most of the race, but made a mistake in traffic with about five laps remaining and it let another driver get by me. The track was really fast around the top and super slick everywhere else. It was kind of air it out on the cushion. I got stuck behind about four cars trying to put them a lap down and it allowed the second-place driver in there.”

Tankersley finished second, which marked his eighth top five of the season.

“I wanted to win for sure, but I’ll definitely take a second,” he said. “We’re looking long-term, wanting to give ourselves a chance to get another championship. We’re still going to try hard to win every night, but podiums are good finishes.”

Tankersley is slated to compete this Friday and Saturday at Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas, for the Shady Oaks Classic with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
