Ben Deatherage - (June 26, 2014) Cottage Grove, Ore. - Despite neither of them visiting victory just quite yet in 2014 Vern Wheeler Jr. and Colin Baker enter Speedweek Northwest separated by only two points in the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest points with the advantage to Wheeler. Wheeler managed to post a second and a third respectively in the last two rounds of the campaign both of which were at Cottage Grove Speedway while Baker had mechanical problems the first night and rallied to a second place finish on night two.

Both drivers are having a breakout season with Baker winning the local 360 Sprint feature at Cottage Grove on Saturday June 21st. If either of them exit Speedweek as the point leaders it is a strong possibility that one of them could end the season as the ASCS-Northwest Region champion.

Don’t count out the rest of the top five as just thrity-three markers separate first place and fifth place in the table. Reece Goetz, Rob Held, and J.J. Hickle make up third through fifth respectively in the points chase with Hickle the only driver so far to net a win.

Speedweek Northwest begins on Sunday June 29th at Siskiyou Motor Speedway in Yreka, California. It will initiate a six races in seven nights stint that produces some of the best racing in the entire Western United States.
