ASCS Gulf South Ready for Busy Memorial Day Weekend

TULSA, Okla. (May 20, 2014) - Memorial Day Weekend is always a busy one for the Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region, and is a favorite for fans and driers alike.

Scheduled for three nights of racing, the Gulf South Region kicks off their weekend on Friday, May 23 with a stop at the Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas. The second time the Gulf South Region will grace the clay of the three-eighths mile oval; Brandon Berryman is the defending champion of events at the Cotton Bowl Speedway. Races on Friday will include IMCA Modifieds, and Hobby Stocks in addition to the ASCS Gulf South Sprint Cars. Racing is scheduled to begin at 8:00 P.M. (CT) with admission only $15. Saturday, May 24 will move action to the Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas. Called off by Weather in 2013, the second chance at a first appearance will get underway at 7:00 P.M. (CT) and includes Limited Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Late Models. Admission on Saturday is $15.

Added just over a week ago to the Gulf South lineup, the Gulf South Region will cap off the weekend at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas on Sunday, May 25 with the Old School Racin' Salute to the Troops. Admission is $15. As a salute to those who protect us, any member or the United States Armed Forces, Firefighter, or Peace Officer with proper I.D. who has served, or is currently serving will be admitted to the grandstands free of charge. Races are scheduled to get underway at 6:45 P.M. (CT) and includes 305cid Sprint Cars, Limited Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mod Lites, and Factory Stocks.

The weekend also includes a $500 bonus for any driver who can win two out of the three nights, or a $1,000 bonus for sweeping the weekend thanks to Griffith Truck and Equipment. With the ASCS National Tour off until May 30, several of the nation's top drivers are expected to be in competition as well.
