Crockett Wins Night One In Yakima
Ben Deatherage - After winning the last three series features Roger Crockett would keep his winning streak alive with the American Sprint Car Series-Northwest Region on Friday September 20th. The Medford, Oregon native would head into the final weekend of the 2013 season at Yakima, Washington’s famed Central Washington State Fair Raceway. It is the only time of the season that the ASCS-Northwest Region visits the 3/8-mile clay oval and since the tour began in 2008 they have ended the year at the track that is known among the drivers as “Yakigeda”.
Come feature time starting on the pole Roger Crockett would seize the lead on the initial start to put his mount out in front. Despite a few incidents in the early goings the SKS Racing/Al Parker Racing Engines/Champion Racing Oil #11 KPC, of Crockett, appeared to be on his way for another victory without any issues.
But around lap ten as lapped traffic came into the picture Crockett would have a brief scare. As he approached the back markers a slower car would spin in front of him forcing the leader to perform some evasive maneuvers to avoid getting caught up in the wreck. Crockett managed to keep his car going and retain the lead.
Roger Crockett would blaze the trail the rest of the distance to earn his eleventh win of the campaign with the ASCS-Northwest Region in 2013 and his third series triumph when the tour has visited Central Washington State Fair Raceway. The win would secure Crockett the season championship to achieve his fourth title in five seasons.
Crossing the stripe in second place would be Enumclaw, Washington’s Henry Van Dam in his Kovash Logging/Johansen Excavating/Les Schwab Tire Center-Enumclaw #33V A.R.T. followed by the Elma Lanes/Shark Racing Engines/FX Signs #08 entry of Steve Vague from Kirkland, Washington in third. Completing the top five finishers was Josh DeWitt of Snohomish, Washington in fourth driving the High Line Manufacturing #5D machine while fifth went to the Jayme Barnes Trucking/Jay’s Automotive/Casey’s Body Shop #9 mount of Everett, Washington’s Jayme Barnes.
Earlier in the evening four heat races were ran. Heat winners included Steve Vague, Eric Fisher from Mount Vernon, Washington piloting the Les Schwab Tire Center/Fire-Down Graphics #24C for car owner Randy Price, Josh DeWitt, and the Rodgers Racing Engines/Linder Powdercoating #22 KPC of Central Point, Oregon’s Garen Linder. A consolation feature was also ran and would be won by Everett, Washington native Colton Heath driving the L.A.W. Motorsports/Shark Racing Engines/Premier Auto Wreckers #33 XXX for car owners Alan Larson and Kelly Welch.
The final leg of the 2013 season for the ASCS-Northwest Region will take place on Saturday September 21st. The event will occur again at the scenic Central Washington State Fair Raceway in Yakima, Washington with racing scheduled to being around 6:00 PM.
