Lucas Oil ASCS open July in South Dakota and Montana

Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (June 26, 2013) A weekend off following the 2013 ASCS Summer Speedweek finds the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real beginning its yearly trek through the northern United States.

Starting Saturday, July 6, the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real joins with the Speedway Motors Midwest Region for a showdown in South Dakota before venturing to Montana for the series debut at the Billings Motorsports Park on Monday, July 8 and return to the Electric City Speedway on Great Falls on Wednesday, July 10.

Featured at the I-90 Speedway in Hartford, the National Tour’s sixth event since 2007 looks to add just as many winners. The site of Jordan Boston’s first Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real triumph in 2012, the 22 degree banked, three-eighths mile oval, attracted 37 drivers for the single night affair.

The list of previous I-90 Speedway winners includes Jason Johnson (6/19/07), Tony Bruce, Jr. (6/24/08), Gary Wright (7/11/09), and Shane Stewart (7/10/10). The track was absent from the scheduled in 2011.

The Billings Motorsports Park features a three-eighths mile opened in 2003. A regular stop of the Big Sky Sprint Car Series, the Monday venture will be the second time the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real has crossed paths with the Montana based Sprint Car series.

The return to the Electric City Speedway in Great Falls will take place Wednesday, July 10. Brock Lemley raced past Jason Johnson in 2012 for the series inaugural victory at the three-tenths mile oval. The Wednesday night affair will again pair the Lucas Oil ASCS National drivers with the Big Sky Sprint Series.

A look at driver standings going into the three night swing shows Johnny Herrera atop the Lucas Oil ASCS driver standings in the Print Place No. 45x with Jason Johnson trailing by 56 going into the July 6 event. Together, the pair make up seven victories on the season with Herrera at three, and Johnson with four.

Putting together a run of six podium finishes through Speedweek, Jeff Swindell has come to life in the Hammers No. 94. The only driver in 2013 to do so, Swindell cut the gap between him and Herrera in half to 132 and currently trails Jason Johnson by only 76.

Moving to fourth, Brad Loyet sits only 16 markers from taking back the show position. A single win on the season, coupled with eight top five and 13 top tens’ have kept the series sophomore in the hunt.

Recovering from mechanical woes, fifth running Tony Bruce, Jr. nearly stole Jeff Swindell’s thunder at the Creek County Speedway on June 20. A last corner slide job saw the Eagle Motorsports No. 18 grab the lead, but too much momentum and a tricky cushion forced the Kansas shoe to setting for second. Nevertheless, the runner up stands as Bruce’s best finish to date.

Logan Forler holds sixth in tour standings with a record that mirrors seventh place Seth Bergman at one win, three top five, and eleven top ten finishes. The pair of Washington native’s points average is a slim .611 points apart, but is still enough to give the young Forler an 11 point advantage over Bergman.

Dustin Morgan and Brodix Rookie of the Year contender Cole Wood swapped the eighth sport twice over the course of Speedweek and are currently tied with the nod going to Morgan. The top ten rounds out with Brandon Hahn who is also seeking the Brodix Rookie of the Year honors.
