The American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region makes its final Wyoming stop of 2009 with this Saturday night's event at Gillette Thunder Speedway.

And, with only four events remaining after Saturday's card, Rapid City, South Dakota's Jake Ossenfort holds a slim ten-point lead over Billing, MT, shoe Jeremy McCune in the series championship points race.

The 17-year-old Ossenfort slipped ahead of McCune with a pair of top-ten runs this past weekend, including a runner-up showing at Rock Springs' Sweetwater Speedway on Saturday night.

While Ossenfort and McCune, a July 11 winner in Blackfoot, ID, are battling for the lead, Meridian, Idaho's Randy Pierce is just 32 points off the lead pace in third, with Kolter Kosten (Douglas, WY) and Mark Sweet (Rock Springs, WY), rounding out the current top five in points.

The balance of the current top ten includes Tucker McCune, Danielle Ossenfort, Bob Schaeffer, Brent Kronfuss and Mike Posey.

Kronfuss is the only driver to post two series wins this season, with single triumphs posted by McCune, Joshua Hodges, Jared Ridge, Roger Crockett, Justyn Cox and Joe Ramaker.

The high-banked, 1/3-mile Gillette Thunder Speedway dirt oval is located off I-90 Exit 129, then 0.5 miles south on Garner Lake Road, then 1.7 miles east on SR 51. For more information, contact the track at 307-682-9241 or 307-689-1287.
