Brian Brown brought the curtains down on this year's edition of the Missouri State Fair by racing to victory lane in Sunday night's 25-lap American Sprint Car Series Midwest Region feature at Sedalia's State Fair Speedway.
Brown shot past Jack Dover on the second round and led the rest of the way to snare his second series win of the year with the Missouri State Fair serving as a backdrop to the big, ½-mile clay oval.
"It's always special to win the State Fair races," Brown commented afterward. "There's no guarantee of how many more there'll be, so you've got to win 'em while you can."
Sunday's triumph over the 32-car ASCS Midwest field also marked Brown's first trip to victory lane adorning the red FVP Super Clean scheme on his Ostrich-powered Super Clean No. 21 Maxim.
"We're proud to get our first win with FVP on the car, it's pretty exciting to get it so close to home too," Brown explained.
After earning the most points through heat race action, the Grain Valley, MO, shoe pulled the eight pill in the redraw, thus starting the feature outside the fourth row with Dover and Washington's Austen Wheatley leading the way to the green flag from the front row.
While Dover gunned into the lead at the outset, Brown wasted little time getting to the front. "Blackjack" blasted from eighth to second on the opening circuit before the red flag flew for Cody Baker, who flipped over the turn one retaining barrier without injury.
Back under way, Brown needed less than another lap to dispose of Dover, ducking to the defending Midwest Region champion's inside exiting turn four and edging ahead as the pair completed the second round.
Brown slipped away for a while, reaching lapped traffic by the ninth circuit. With heavy traffic a factor, the battling duo of Dover and Jesse Hockett kept Brown within striking distance most of the way, closing in on several occasions.
"Lapped traffic was pretty tough, those guys were all racing their race and they were fast enough to make it a challenge," Brown surmised.
Brown was finally freed of traffic when the caution flew three laps shy of the checkered flag for Rusty Potter's stalled mount. Don Droud, Jr., then surrendered a top-ten position when driveline issues surfaced on the ensuing restart.
Brown raced to the checkered flag unabated over the final three rounds, with Hockett getting the best of Dover for runner-up honors in the final circuits. Four-time Winged Outlaw Warriors champion Randy Martin took advantage of a late Dover bobble to claim the show position, with Dover settling for fourth.
Jonathan Cornell rode the high side around Jon Corbin to snare fifth on the final lap, with Corbin settling for sixth. Chad Humston climbed from 14th to seventh, with Josh Fisher slipping around Austen Wheatley on the final circuit to snare eighth. Wheatley was ninth, with Mark Shirshekan completing the top ten.
Martin, Fisher, Wheatley and Corbin topped heat race action for Sunday night's 32-car field, with Austin Alumbaugh winning the 12-lap "B" Main.
