A-Verdi King of Central New York To Be Crowned...

[b A-Verdi King of Central New York To Be Crowned as Part of Big Money Weekend for the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots]

[i Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (August 3, 2009)]

In the massive weekend for ASCS racing, two major events in Central New York will not only help to decide the 2009 Champion, it will crown the first King of Series Champion of 2009.

The Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots close out the 2009 A-Verdi Storage Container King of Central New York Series this Friday and Saturday with events at Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY and Fulton Speedway.

Black Rock, the most frequented spot in Patriot History, will also be the first of six tracks to host a second full-point Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot events this season. The difference this time around is that the winner will walk away with a cool $4,000.

This will be the 11th running of the Insinger NY Nationals, an event that used to be known as the “Bully Hill Fall Sprint Nationals” and has been transformed to August to align with the NASCAR event 12 miles down the road at Watkins Glen International.

Last season, the winner picked up $5,000, but for the 2009 edition, $1,000 has been taken off the top and spread through the top-five. With extra money for the first five across the line, including $1,500 for second and $1,000 for third, this race has also been increased to a 30-lap event.

Back in May, Bobby Breen picked up the win at the sight of his first career sprint win back in 2004. The 2004 Black Rock Sprint Rookie of the Year held off Trevor Lewis in an epic duel. Lewis, who won his last time with the Patriots at Cayuga County, has two career $4,000 wins in this event back in 2004 and 2005.

Justin Barger became $5,000 richer after taking the win in this race last August. Barger battled with Chuck Hebing that night, and “The Cobra” would love nothing more than to get this win this time around.

Among some of the other competitors that have won at Black Rock include Lance Yonge, from nearby Penn Yan, Blake Breen, Tim Kelly, Gordy Button and Dan Kaszubinski.

Jessica Zemken will make her return after motor problems on Friday along with Kyle Moffit and Jared Fink. Some of the BRS locals expected to be there include Jeff Frasier, Bruce DeWick and Mike Stelter.

The car count very well could eclipse the season high set in the last A-Verdi King of CNY Event at Cayuga County. The intensity level will also be captured throughout the night by the Hot Wings TV cameras to be displayed later this year.

Fulton will play host to the Saturday Night Special. This event was originally set as the season opener but with the purchase of the track by John and Laura Wight, that date was not possible with the need for a facelift to the 3/8-mile facility. The new team has now brought Fulton back to what so many are accustomed.

The real battle to watch at Fulton will be for the A-Verdi King of CNY Title. This is the third season with an A-Verdi King of CNY Crown awarded. The first two years, the King was also the overall Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Champion. This precursor may very well continue this year with the two championship contenders both in the King of CNY Hunt.

Bryan Howland, who leads the overall standings by six points over Jared Zimbardi, also leads the King of CNY Standings by six points, but his nearest foe in that battle in Bobby Breen. Zimbardi is only 18 points back from Howland, which is only nine spots on the racetrack.

After the lead trio, Don Adamczyk, Gordy Button and Chuck Hebing are fourth through sixth in the King of CNY Standings, respectively. They would need some major help from the top three to get in the title hunt, but still can earn a quality spot in this ultra-competitive series.

With point fund money paid all the way back to 10th by A-Verdi, Scott Kreutter, the most recent winner on the Patriot tour, leads a tight pack including Dan Kaszubinski, Judi Bates, Bubba Broderick, Trevor Lewis, 2007 King of CNY Runner-up Jason Barney and Jeff Cook.

Fulton hosted the King of CNY finale back in 2007, which was won by Justin Barger. That night Chuck Hebing was crowned the champion of the series. “Cobra” won at Fulton in May of 2007. In 2008, both the feature of the May race as well as the September make-up were cancelled due to rain.

Bryan Howland has a sprint win at Fulton, but never in ASCS competition. Jared Zimbardi has been solid in Oswego County as well, with plenty of heat wins. He will need a solid run in the feature though to get the edge on Howland in the overall standings.

A slew of locals have looked forward to this race including Gordy Button, Brandan Warner, Tommy Wickham, Bobby Podolak, Andy Noto, Tim Devendorf and Joe August Jr.

The King of CNY races in 2009 have averaged 33 cars and that number should grow before the weekend is out.
