ASCS Patriots Takes 6 Different Point Leaders...

[b Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots Takes Six Different Point Leaders to Second Half of 2009]

[i Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla. (July 22, 2009)]

With more than half of the 2009 season now complete, the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot “Five Crown Tour” is looking like the wealth could be spread around when the dust settles at the end of the season.

Jared Zimbardi, of Little Valley, NY, currently leads the Championship Standings by a slim two points over defending champion Bryan Howland. The two drivers have swapped the top position five times already this year, with the margin never being more than 14 points.

“I was talking with Bryan and we just agreed to keep swapping it every night until the last night of the year, just to keep it interesting,” joked Zimbardi.

While the focus for “The Juice” and “Flyin’ Bryan” are on the overall title, each of the series in the “Five Crown Tour” are well within their grasps. Zimbardi does not lead any of the “King of” Standings. In fact, five different drivers lead a leg of the “Lucas Oil Five Crown Tour”.

All but the King of the Golden Horseshoe have just two races remaining, meaning that each has hit their stretch run. Even though the final “King of” Series got started just last week, the first one to finish will occur this weekend.

The Inaugural PJ Motorsports King of the Southern Tier will be crowned this weekend, and whom that might be is still up for grabs.

Bobby Breen, of Savannah, NY, holds an eight-point lead in the Southern Tier Series. Don Adamczyk is in second after a pair of third-place finishes in the first two events. Next are Zimbardi and Howland, with Southern Tier Resident Gary Troutman rounding out the top-five. Bubby Kerrick, Scott Bonnell and T.J. Newton are also in the mix of this series, which concludes Saturday at Stateline.

Bryan Howland, of Auburn, NY, currently leads the points in the A-Verdi Storage Containers King of Central New York, the most lucrative of the Five Crown Series. With wins in two of the four events, the defending King of CNY is up by six points over Breen. Zimbardi runs third in these standings, with Don Adamczyk, Gordy Button and 2007 King of CNY Chuck Hebing still in the mix.

Alain Bergeron, of St. Pie, Qbc., is fresh off his first career Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Win on Sunday at Cornwall, he also took the Riverside Bar and Grill King of the St. Lawrence point lead away from the first weekend. Howland is 10 points back of Bergeron, with Zimbardi tied for third with the continually impressive Michael Parent. Adamczyk and Button are again in a top-five, with Brian McDonald, Brandan Warner and Doug Bowman inside the top-10.

Trevor Lewis, of Upper Black Eddy, PA, has the point lead in the King of OH/PA Holiday Weekend Bonus $heriez. Lewis, along with Blake Breen, will have a chance to make this series worth at least $10,000 if they can sweep the final two events at Sharon and Eriez Labor Day Weekend. Breen is second in these standings, just four points back of Lewis. Bubba Broderick runs a very close third with Zimbardi and Howland rounding out the top-five. Chris Shuttleworth, Bonnell and Dain Naida also have themselves currently in the top-10.

Tom Huppunen, of Fenwick, Ont., has the point lead in the King of the Golden Horseshoe by virtue of his win in the Northern Summer Nationals at Ohsweken. It was the only event of four in this series run so far, meaning that Huppunen still has work to do to hold off the likes of Glenn Styres, Kevin Job and Naida. Zimbardi and Howland have some work to do in this series as they both struggled in the closing laps at Ohsweken.

Trevor Lewis also leads the Gater Racing News Hard Charger of the Season Standings. Howland has closed within one of Lewis, with Michael Parent going from zero to third place in three races. That rapid advancement should tell you how wide open things still are with 10 races left to move forward.
