Iron-Man Late Model Series
Rusty Schlenk Bags Butler Motor Speedway Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels Victory
QUINCY, MICHIGAN (August 24, 2024)– The Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels would return to action on Saturday evening at Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, MI and Rusty Schlenk of McClure, OH would take the lead on lap seven and lead the remainder of the way to score the $5,000 payday.
The win by the 38-year-old Schlenk would make him the first three-time winner with the series in 2024 and his 36th career Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series Fueled by VP Racing Fuels victory. Schlenk’s win came aboard the Tyler Borck owned Domination Race Car powered by a Mullins Race Engine with sponsorship from Terry Hendrick Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/RAM, Tom Finch Automotive, Tri-State Pole Barns, Buckeye Concrete Coatings, Landrum Performance Springs, Integra Shocks, Domination Race Cars, Dominator Race Products, VP Lubricants, VP Racing Fuels, Willy’s Carb and Dyno Shop, Wilwood, Velocita USA, Be Cool, All Star Performance, ZAMP Racing, KBC Graphix, Vahlco Racing Wheels, XS Power Batteries, MAGA Lifts, Race-Fan.com, C-N-T Services, and Chris Mapes.
Rob Anderzack and Ryan Missler would battle for the lead at the start of the Valvoline A-Main, but a spin by Camery Burkwalt in turn two would negate the start. The second attempted start would see Missler grab the race lead, with Rusty Schlenk, taking second, followed by Brian Ruhlman, Anderzack, and Devin Shiels. Anderzack would take third on lap two and would begin to challenge Schlenk for second, while Schlenk challenged Missler for the lead. Anderzack would spin through the infield in turn three and four on lap five and lose several positions, but continued racing. Schlenk would make his move for lead on Missler in turn one on lap seven and secure the lead off of turn two. As the field completed lap ten, Schlenk continued to lead over Missler, while Ruhlman would now be third, followed by Eric Spangler, and Shiels. Schlenk continued to maintain the lead, while Ruhlman would run down Missler for second and would grab the runner-up slot on lap fifteen. The front five would remain the same as the field saw the halfway mark at lap twenty. Ruhlman would close to within a half-second of Schlenk for the lead, but would have disaster strike when he slowed on the backchute on lap twenty-eight with a flat left-rear tire. The restart would see Schlenk continue to lead, with Missler still second, Spangler would now be third, Shiels, and Anderzack would go from eighth to fifth, but Anderzack would slow in turn one on lap twenty-nine with mechanical issues and would pull to the infield, finished for the event. For what would be the final restart of the event, Schlenk and Missler would maintain first and second, while Shiels and Colin Shipley would go to third and fourth, shuffling Spangler back to fifth, while Dusty Moore would take fifth from Spangler one circuit later. Schlenk would maintain the lead over the final ten laps and claim the victory, with Missler finishing second, while Devin Shiels, Shipley, and Moore completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Michael Archer, Austin Lay, Ruhlman, Gregg Haskell, and Spangler.
