26 Promotions – Peoria, AZ – (May 31st, 2017) – Jarrett Martin entered this past weekend’s Non-Wing races at Canyon Speedway Park with a slim four-point lead in the Power 600 Series standings following last Saturday’s win.

Martin’s Saturday night pill draw saw him line up fourth for his Heat, but last minute track prep, while the cars were being called to staging, caught the teams off guard.

“We ended up having to go out and pack the track a second time before our Heats,” Martin explained. “So it threw everybody a curveball going into the heats setup wise. I fell back early to sixth but was able to get a handle on the car and track and come back up to 3rd before the end.”

Martin lined up seventh for the start of the Feature after missing the six-car invert by a couple of points. Martin cracked the Top Five prior to the halfway point of the race but was never able to move up any further.

“I was really good early but the track went away a lot faster than I had expected,” he said. “We weren’t set up very well for the end and I was having a hard time keeping up with the track getting slick. I was able to hang on to fifth and keep it together for Sunday night.”

Drawing the number twenty in pill draw lined Martin up on the outside of the front row for his Heat race on Sunday evening.

“My dad and I were trying to guess what the track was going to do to set the car up right,” he said. “We ended up being pretty right on and ran away with the Heat race win.”

The Heat race victory earn Martin enough passing points to line him up third in Sunday night’s Main.

“From the drop of the green I knew all the guys up front were fast,” explained Martin. “But, we knew our car was going to come in better for the end.”

With his car setup for a late race run, Martin spent most of the race in third before closing in on second place in the closing laps.

“I started trying to challenge for second late but I put myself a little too far back a few laps before to make anything work,” said Martin. “I think we had a second-place car but overall the night wasn’t too bad. The top guys were all pretty close which makes for good racing.”

Martin’s third-place result was his fifth podium finish of the year to go along with his six Top Five’s.

Martin’s next race is scheduled for June 17th at Canyon Speedway Park with the Power 600 Series on the big third-mile track.
