Brent Sexton Bags Barona Win, as Speedway Revisit Approaches for POWRi SWLS

Belleville, IL. (10/05/2020) Visiting their home racing surface of Barona Speedway for the sixth time this season the POWRi Lucas Oil Southwest Lightning Sprints would not disappoint with terrific racing throughout the night. Throwing out the challenge to the Western Midget Racing Group the POWRi SWLS’s would take the wings off and offer fans a unique twist on the competition. Heavily contested on all circuits, Brent Sexton would earn the edge in the final stages and claiming his first feature win of the year.

With a near full-field of nineteen POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints logging in to compete, early racing action would see a Sexton-Gatlin Racing sweep as Dalton, Brent, and Grant Sexton would all three win their respective heat races while putting the POWRi SWLS up 3-0 on the WMRG and setting the stage for the feature event.

Green flag racing would see a fury of wingless lightning sprints and midgets swap spots nearly every lap with racing close quarters and often evenly matched throughout the field of mixed cars. After outstanding efforts by all entrants, the racing quest of the Sextin-Galtin Racing patriarch would not be denied as Brent Sexton grabbed the lead and would not look back on his way to victory lane. Sexton, in his topless lightning sprint, would not be without contest as Keoni Texeira, racing a Western Midget, would settle into the runner-up position as SWLS rookie sensation Kevin Bates rounded out the podium finishers in his career-best finish. Fellow rookie driver Ryan Dumas would claim the hard-charger award after having to race through the field from a tough heat race finish.

The POWRi Southwest Lightning Sprints continue the great racing action back at on their home-turf of Barona Speedway for a hair-raising and crowd-pleasing event on Saturday, October 17th. Barona Speedway’s Pit-Gates will open at Noon with Driver’s Registration 1-3 PM. Hot Laps begin at 5 PM as great racing action follows.
