Chase Johnson Captures Several Stout Moments During Busy Year

Inside Line Promotions – PENNGROVE, Calif. (Dec. 24, 2018) – Chase Johnson enjoyed success throughout one of the busiest seasons of his career as he competed in a half-dozen different types of race cars in 2018.
Johnson climbed behind the wheel of a midget, an outlaw kart and both 410ci and 360ci winged and non-wing sprint cars. Ironically, his feature victories came in race cars he has the least experience piloting.
Johnson captured his first career midget triumph with Morris Motorsports in June at Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, Calif., before he and car owners Shawn and Cyndi Thomas registered an AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series victory in September at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., as part of the annual Gold Cup during the Bullett Impressions California Sprint Week. It marked Johnson’s first career non-wing sprint car victory.
“It was unique this year because the two cars I don’t have much experience in being the midget and non-wing sprint car is where we got our wins,” he said. “We do the winged stuff pretty much all year round. That was cool with the lack of races we do and the lack of experience we have to earn wins in a midget and a non-wing sprint car.”
Johnson recorded many podiums, top fives and top 10s throughout the year, beginning last January during the famed Chili Bowl Midget Nationals inside the River Spirit Expo Center in Tulsa, Okla. Johnson guided a Morris Motorsports entry to a career-best third-place finish during his preliminary night to lock into the finale for the first time. He capped the event with an eighth-place result out of more than 300 competitors.
“When you get your first couple of tries at the Chili Bowl you just look at making the A Main as a dream,” he said. “To lock in through our preliminary night and then run in the top 10 during the finale was very special and something I’ll never forget.”
Johnson was also stout in winged sprint car competition this year, finishing fourth in the King of the West-NARC Fujitsu Series championship standings and 10th in the Sprint Car Challenge Tour standings despite missing a race.
“It was cool to be in the top 10 in both of California’s premier series and in both a 410 and 360,” he said. “I only ran King of the West full time four years ago and that was my rookie year. Other than that we haven’t ran anything for points. Doing one series let alone two is a tough task. It was really cool to do both of those in the same year and finish in the top 10 in both standings.
“I want to thank Shawn and Cyndi Thomas, Jim and Annette VanLare, Del Morris and Brian McClish for the opportunities they provided in 2018. I’m also very grateful for the support of all of our marketing partners as well as our fans, friends and families.”
