Breedlove Ends Winless Drought with Anderson Dominance

ANDERSON, Ind. – A five-year winless streak by veteran NSTA Top Speed Modified Tour racer Damon Breedlove was snapped in dominant fashion at Anderson Speedway on Saturday night.

The tight, high-banked quarter-mile of Anderson Speedway is only a 20-minute drive from Breedlove’s Greenfield, Indiana home. He used a hometown advantage to take his famous “X” to the front of the field. The win wasn’t without drama. The initial start was called off after a melee heading into the first corner, which saw Breedlove facing the wrong direction, and fast qualifier Scotty Tomasik in the turn one retaining wall. Tomasik would be unable to continue on prematurely ending what could have been a strong run for the Avon, Indiana pilot.

Long-time Anderson Speedway racer Harold Scott led the field on the complete restart, but an issue forced him to slow abruptly in turn four, which allowed the entire field by on the outside and gave the lead to Al Berry. Berry had been thrashing to get his car together for the event, not even completing the car until late in the afternoon, forcing him to qualify the car with no practice.

While Berry was out front, Breedlove was challenging him low in an effort to take the lead away. On lap 11, Breedlove finally wrestled the lead away. From that point on it would be smooth sailing for Breedlove. He led the final 49 laps en route to victory lane. Points leader Jonathan Martin looks poised to cruise into Championship Weekend and claim the title on the strength of a second place finish. Berry held on to third place. Two Turn One Rookie of the Year title contenders rounded out the top five. Evan Foster had his best career finish in fourth, and Jamie Sites claimed a strong fifth place finish.

The series heads into the summer break, before the conclusion of the season at the legendary Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis on September 24th. The race will decide the championship and rookie of the year titles on the 2017 Kickin’ Asphalt Tour.
