Cottage Grove, Oregon- Cottage Grove Speedway would host the sixth and final leg of Speedweek Northwest 2017 on Saturday, July 15th. It was the second straight night that the series raced at the historic ¼-mile clay oval. Twenty-four teams were in attendance with teams representing the American states of Oregon, Washington, and California, as well as the Canadian province of British Columbia, the New Zealand region of Canterbury, and the Australian state of Western Australia.

Jared Ridge would set the pace at the start of the main event. Ridge, from Grants Pass, would be recorded as the leader of the opening lap before being overtaken on the second trip around the speedway. Jason Solwold, in the Mike Anderson and Monica Baca entry, would be the driver obtaining the desired position.

Solwold, from Burlington, Washington, would guide the field into some extremely heavy lapped traffic. He would feel quite a bit of pressure from potential challengers but maintained the lead. The long green flag looked as if it would go the entire distance without any incidents. However, lap eighteen would see the one and only stoppage of the main event.

It would bunch the field up one final time. Solwold would set the pace with an ultra-quick Roger Crockett on his heels. Crockett, from Medford and in the Roger Henderson owned mount, would give chase to Solwold and the two would battle fiercely in and out of lapped traffic.

Crockett would eventually secure the position with just laps to go. Holding back Solwold on the final lap Roger Crockett would record his second win of Speedweek Northwest 2017 in four starts. It was the twenty-third career Speedweek Northwest victory for Roger and the eighth occasion he has done so at CGS.

Jason Solwold was a noble second while the Stan Greenberg owned machine driven by Mitchell Faccinto, from Hanford, California, was third. Henry Van Dam, of Enumclaw, Washington, got fourth over fifth finishing Clarksburg, California chauffeur Justyn Cox.

Jason Solwold would set fast time of the night in qualifications. Heat races were won by Solwold, Medford’s Seth Nunes, and Lake Stevens, Washington driver Austen Wheatley for British Columbian car owners Doug and Kathy Rutz. Solwold was also victorious in the trophy dash which placed him on the inside pole starting position.

At the end of the night, all of the points were tallied and Justyn Cox would be declared the 2017 Speedweek Northwest champion. It would be his first title and is the eighth different Californian to have the honor.
