Inside Line Promotions – COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (Sept. 13, 2015) – Henry Van Dam had a career-best effort going at Cottage Grove Speedway last Wednesday before he was slowed by a mechanical problem.

Van Dam kicked off the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at the quarter-mile oval by qualifying 13th quickest, which was only one hundredth of a second out of the 12-car heat race inversion.

“Everything seemed to be going pretty well,” he said. “We were good in hot laps and we had a decent qualifying time. We missed the invert by one, but we had a decent start in the heat race and were hanging right with them.”

Van Dam was running where he started – fifth – during a heat race when the mechanical gremlin appeared.

“The track was pretty fast so passing was a little difficult,” he said. “We were able to keep pace. That was definitely a plus. I was looking forward to getting laps at Cottage Grove, but it got cut short there. We broke a valve just after halfway.”

Van Dam, whose best World of Outlaws feature result at Cottage Grove Speedway was 16th, was unable to finish his heat race and he was forced to scratch from the main event, which he was scheduled to start 13th.

The team will take this weekend off before returning to competition on Sept. 25-26 at Central Washington State Fair Speedway in Yakima, Wash., with the Western Sprint Tour. Van Dam placed 12th at the track earlier this season, which snapped a four-race top-10 streak – including three podium finishes – there.
