MSTS 410 season kicks off with rare sprint car treat in Huron!

The last time 410 sprint cars raced around Dakota State Fair Speedway, it was a thrilling last lap pass that brought a large crowd to a roar at the checkered flag. Now, the Huron, South Dakota, speedway is set to wave the green flag to start the season for the ACS Roofing, Westover Masonry Midwest 410 Sprint Touring Series powered by Cressman Sanitation. When the sprint cars take to the track at the May 11 opener, it will be a rare treat for racing fans in that part of the region.

The Dakota State Fair Speedway has hosted less than 10 events with 410 sprint cars in the last 20 years, most recently hosting the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Cars in 2017. That event and the Outlaws first showing at the speedway in 2015 were both won by Donny Schatz. Tyler Walker was victorious at the track in 2002 with the World of Outlaws Gumout Series.

The Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association has visited the track a handful of times over the last two decades. John Lambertz is the most successful with 2006 and 2008 victories. Other NOSA winners include Cody Hansen (2011), Lou Kennedy Jr. (2010) and Bob Martin (2009).

The speedway has hosted two national level 360 sprint car shows in recent history. The late Jason Johnson was victorious with the American Sprint Car Series in 2007 and 2008. The only previous MSTS scheduled event was rained out in 2017.

Dakota State Fair Speedway is one of the largest tracks on the current MSTS 410 schedule for 2024, measuring at 0.460 miles. The track record at the speedway is held by Joey Saldana at 14.593 seconds, coming out to an average speed of 113.5 miles per hour.

West-Way Trailers, Under the Sun Rentals and Dr. Robert Hohm present the event which will also include WISSOTA Street Stocks, Midwest Mods and Super Stocks.

For the MSTS 410s, the event starts a new chapter in history with the first event of the 410 sprint car series. The MSTS 410s will be part of the program the following night at Huset’s Speedway. The MSTS 360 season opens the following Saturday at Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, Nebraska.

Each MSTS 410 member will receive $100 for a heat race win from GRP Motorsports. The Cressman Sanitation hard charger receives $100 in the main event. A+ Towing’s hard luck award will also place $100 into a series driver’s hands.
