MSTS weekend recap: hard luck and hard chargers

Lee Grosz and Thomas Kennedy took the Property Solutions of America Midwest Sprint Touring Series victories over the weekend. Other hardware was handed out over the weekend at the events at Rapid Speedway and Wagner Speedway.

Friday’s event in Rock Rapids, Iowa, featured three different feature leaders. But behind those battles, Matt Juhl was making his way to the front. His charge from row three to runner-up at the checkered earned him the Autoland Hard Charger award.

The A-Plus Towing Hard Luck award went to Kevin Flowers. The Hartford, South Dakota, driver was moving to the front in his heat race when he slipped high in turn four and made contact with the wall. The damage to the #42 would keep him from making the call for the feature.

Saturday, MSTS made it’s first of our appearances at Wagner Speedway.

Brant O’Banion was leading his heat race when a tight battle on the track resulted in damage to the right rear of the Performance One #20. While he’d be forced to start deep in the feature, he’d charge into the top ten by the end of the 25-lap feature. In return, he’d take the Autoland Hard Charger award.

Taylor Forbes found some trouble in the feature event. The Willow Run Farms #48 stopped on lap 17 with a flat rear tire. He received the A-Plus Towing Hard Luck award.
