Searing Shines in Icy Slick Gondik Law Speedway Series Stop

For Immediate Release – August 9th, 2024

The third night of the 2024 XR Northern Storm Series was contested on Friday at the Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin at the Head of the Lakes Fairgrounds with another stout field of 36 Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series powered by Momentum Truck Group, Freightliner, Western Star competitors in action.

Track point leader Pat Doar set the Hiller Auction Inc. Quick Qualifying lap with a time of 15.434 seconds around the fast red clay oval.

Cole Searing, Shane Sabraski, James Giossi and Jeff Provinzino won the four qualifying heat races to start the night, with Travis Budisalovich and Dave Flynn winning the twin b-mains to set the feature field.

Provinzino and Doar earned the front row for the night’s 40-lap, $2,500-to-win feature event with Provinzino getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the field into turn number one. Jeff led early with Doar close in tow, while Darrell Nelson, Searing, Sabraski and Kyle Peterlin were in an early four car battle for the third spot just behind the leaders.

Provinzino opened up a slight gap on Doar for second while the battle for third waged on with Searing slipping away from the pack into third and charging after Doar on lap 10. Once Searing was able to get to Doar’s bumper, he snuck to the inside and into the runner up spot on lap 15 and began to close on Provinzino out front.

The lead trio had pulled away from the field and Searing wasted little time getting by Provinzino to the lead as they raced through turns one and two and once he did Doar slid by Provinzino into second in the same set of turns.

Once out front, Searing drove off into the night with Doar second and Provinzino being forced to battle for third just past the halfway point of the event with Nelson, Giossi and a charging Ashley Anderson, who started 19th on the starting grid.

Searing and Doar were working their way through lapped traffic, while Anderson was trying to steal third from Provinzino and was finally able to do so on lap 28. Once Ashley got to third, he quickly rolled up on Doar and drove by him into the runner up spot with just five laps to go.

Searing had built a 3.5 second lead once Anderson cleared Doar for second, but Ashley quickly closed that gap and gave himself as shot as the white flag flew. Searing was able to fend off the advances and race to the win, just under a second ahead of hard charging Anderson. Doar ran third with Giossi and Johnny Broking in the top five, as the highest finishing rookie of the race.

Six through ten were Provinzino, Sabraski, Kevin Burdick, Sam Mars and Nelson.

Devin VanHouse won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event in dominating fashion, while Brandon Copp stole the WISSOTA Modified feature event from Dave Cain in the closing laps in another classic to wrap up the night.
