Wissota Late Model Challenge Series
Twice As Nice for Doar in Twin Ports Twin 25’s At Gondik Law
For Immediate Release – August 7th, 2023
The 2023 season for the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series held it’s annual Twin Ports Twin 25’s at the Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wi on Sunday, August 6th, after being rained out on it’s original date on the final Friday of July.
Kyle Peterlin started the night by setting fast time with a lap of 15.860 seconds around the banked oval, while Chad Mahder, Darrell Nelson, Kevin Burdick and Jake Redetzke topped the four qualifying heat races early in the night’s program. Peterlin and Skeeter Estey raced to wins in the night’s twin B-mains and Danny Vang won the Last Chance Race.
Series point leader Pat Doar and Steve Laursen earned the front row for the night’s first 25-lap, $2,000-to-win feature event with Doar getting the upper hand on the initial start and leading the field into turn number one before Nelson slowed on the front stretch before a lap was completed.
On the restart, Doar took back off out front with sixth starting Jake Redetzke in tow. Just behind the top two Jeff Provinzino and Danny Bargender battled hard for third, while Redetzke was trying to keep pace with Doar out front.
The second, and final, caution of the night flew on lap 8 for a scary crash in turn three, which saw John Kaanta nearly take down a light pole on the infield after contact with Danny Vang. Both drivers were o,k and on the restart Doar took back off with Redetzke a close second.
With Doar out front and Redetzke giving chase, Provinzino, Travis Budisalovich and Chad Mahder were in a great battle just behind for third, with Dustin Sorensen closing in as well.
Doar continued to hit his marks out front, but Redetzke stayed close while the lead duo entered lapped traffic. Redetzke took several shots to try to find a faster line around the ultra-slick speedway, but was not able to get to Doar, as Pat raced to his 41st career series victory.
Redetzke ran second with Budisalovich gaining the upper hand for third. Provinzino edged Sorensen for fourth at the line as well.
Kevin Burdick and Ryan Mikkelson lead the second Twin 25 to the green with Mikkelson taking the lead on the start, only to slow while leading on the third lap, ending his night. Burdick took over as the leader and lead lap four until Skeeter Estey took command and raced away from the field, leading laps 5 through 22 before jumping the cushion and allowing Burdick to re-claim the top spot, which he held to the checkered for the $2,000 payday.
Cole Chernosky won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature, while Shane Sabraski won a great Modified feature as well with a last lap pass for the win.
