Wissota Late Model Challenge Series
Peterson Wires Field for Second Straight Challenge Series Payday
The 2023 season for the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series wrapped up night #4 of the four-night Western Minnesota-Eastern South Dakota swing on Sunday, June 11th with the series’ only trip to the state of South Dakota, with a visit to the Casino Speedway in Watertown, SD.
John Kaanta started off the night by setting fast time with a lap of 13.587 seconds around the tight banked oval, while Jayson Good, Trevor Anderson and Tyler Peterson topped the three qualifying heat races early in the night’s program.
Kaanta earned the pole for the 40-lap, $3,000-to-win Marilyn Olson Memorial main event, but it was outside front row sitter Peterson who took command on lap one and was able to lead all 40 circuits at the bullring to claim his second straight series victory.
Behind Peterson out front, Kaanta and Chad Becker waged a war for nearly the entire 40-lap distance battling side by side for the runner up spot lap after lap, while Pat Doar and Anderson were in an early tussle for fifth just behind the leaders as well. Just behind that battle, Jake Redetzke and Sam Mars were side by side for several laps as well.
The event was slowed by four cautions and a pair of red flag periods, which kept the field tight and fans on the edge of their seats on each restart. Jayson Good elected to take the backrow challenge and forfeited his 4th starting spot to roll off from the 25th starting spot and after advancing forward to 11th, he was involved in one of the red flag situations, which ended his night.
Jason Marco won the WISSOTA Street Stock feature, Tommy Nichols won the WISSOTA Midwest Modified main event, Bradley Rossow won the WISSOTA Hornet feature event to wrap up the night.
